New Primary School Counsellor welcomes back families and introduces herself to the STA Community. Our High School Counsellors announce upcoming workshop “Social Media and Your Teen.”
Hi everyone! Happy to meet you and happy to be getting acquainted with families and students these past few weeks. Let me introduce myself, my name is Rachel Elizabeth Szewczuk and I come from the United States. I was a visual arts teacher for 11 years, teaching in America, Costa Rica and now Thailand. I have recently taken on the role of Art Therapist and Primary School Counsellor here at St Andrews. I am looking forward to working alongside our wonderful counseling staff here across both of our schools, and meeting you and all your wonderful children throughout the school year!
As I know many families are transitioning back into school from last year, or are new to our school. I would like to welcome everyone back and I hope you all had a wonderful, fun filled and relaxing summer break. We have had a wonderful start to the year and find that everyone has been settling in quite well. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to contact me by email, phone or pop into my office, my office is located in the Main building next to estates.
As Art Therapist and Head of Primary Counselling I want to be as accessible as possible, my email is Rachel.sz@standrews.ac.th. Students are able to come into the counseling office before school on Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-8:00 and after school each day from 2:30-3:30. Students are also available to come in during class time if needed. If they come and I am not here I have a box attached to my door, please leave your name, classroom number and small reason in my 'Speak Up and Suggestions' box.
As the Art Therapist here at St Andrews I offer various forms of art as therapy, cathartic and art intervention in terms of psychotherapy. If you are interested in Art Therapy for your son or daughter please contact your classroom teacher, they will be asked to fill out a referral form which will be forwarded to Khun Third of Key Stage 1 or Ms. Carys of Key Stage 2. If you have any questions about Art Therapy, what it is, what it entails and anything else please contact me personally through email or phone.
I am greatly sorry to hear about the loss of a teacher, friend, and colleague, Mr. Simon. I understand it has been a sad start to the school and I know he meant so much to so many people in the school. My condolences go out to each and every person - families, teachers, staff and students. This can be a hard thing to process through and can sometimes bring about additional emotional instabilities. As the Primary School Counselor I know this can be a tough situation and I would like to offer my help and guidance with any feelings/emotions your children may be struggling with during this time. Sometimes people like to be with loved ones, friends, or by themselves when processes through such an event. I am providing the following resources to look over when it comes to children and the grieving process. Please contact me if anything arises with your child in any way.
The High School Counseling Department would like to invite all interested STA parents to attend an interactive workshop “Social Media and Your Teen” to increase awareness to the social media sites most used by our students and to discuss their benefits and disadvantages with the High School Counsellors. Wednesday 27 September 2017 at the 7th floor examination hall of the Blue Building.
