Day 1
What a day we have had in the pool and track! With new schools in our FOBISIA category, today was always going to be competitive. The swimmers stormed to success and finished with 5 Gold, 14 Silver and 9 bronze.
We were even more successful on the track, with 22 Golds, 21 Silvers and 17 bronze medals! We finished in 4th place in competitions. In Athletics we were 20 points off the Bronze medal and 31 points off of Silver. It shows the strength in all the schools this year.
Day 2
Our Teeball skills developed with every game and all 4 teams displayed awesome teamwork to push people to be their best. There were so many great moments of today but a huge highlight was our A team scoring a triple play* that had everyone in the stands applauding (*three batters out within one play. A very difficult skill to perform).
Congratulations to all the players; our A and C teams who were awarded the Bronze medals, sadly our B team finished 3rd but missed out on medals due to the head to head rule and our D team finished 5th.
Day 3
There's no question that sports competitions can be a powerful emotional experience. The football competition was no different.
The U11 Boys started superbly; creative passing and moving football, team goals which lead to hat-tricks in different games for Takeshi, Toby and Lorenzo, and solid defending and goal keeping at the back. We kept ourselves in Gold medal contention until the final game but unfortunately lost 1-0 and finished 4th.
The U10 boys displayed incredible determination to play well as a team. With Elliot and Ben in goal making fantastic saves, Neeraj and Lucas ran the midfield and Jack was the lone striker. The whole team played some fantastic football but unfortunately ended in 4th place.
The U11 girls played some fantastic football but it was just one of those days where nothing would go in the goal. Their constant efforts and domination of matches ensured they finished in 4th place.
The U10 Girls got off to rocky start losing their first game 4-0, however they remained as positive as ever and, thanks to a superb goal from Pauletta, managed to secure a 1-0 victory in the second match. But, sadly, it wasn't our day as the results from other games meant we just missed out. The girls finished 4th!
The end of the day was concluded with a gala dinner to celebrate a fantastic week of sport. The students enjoyed a traditional Thai cultural performances and then danced at the disco.
March 22nd saw the ESAC cross country competition of the year for the Regents Lions. Over 60 students represented the school from year 4 to 13 over a variety of distances ranging from 1.5 to 4 km. The Secondary students and teachers taking part in the adult category performed excellently. Well done to all those who took part! A special mention should go the following students for their top 4 position finished:
Lucas (Under 15 race) - 1st
Daniel (Over 15 race) - 2nd
Veronika (Under 15) - 2nd
Iulia (Over 15 race) - 2nd
Normen (Over 15 race) - 3rd
Luca (U13 race) - 3rd
Jeongwoo (U15 race) - 3rd
Luke (U13 race) - 4th
Sophia (U13 race) - 4th
It was a close competition for first place between Red and Green House, with some excellent performances and effort on display from all those involved. Congratulations to Red House who were the most consistent throughout the competition, finishing in 1st or 2nd place across every year group. Well done Red House!
1st - Red House
2nd - Green House
3rd - Blue House
4th - Yellow House
It's official- the Regents U13 FOBISIA team are 2018 Athletics champions! We won gold in the Athletics and finished in 4th position in the swimming (extremely close to a bronze medal in this!).
In football, the boys had mixed fortunes losing some early games that they should have won, but then rallying in the afternoon to end up in a match against St Andrews to decide 3rd place. Unfortunately it was a game too far for the boys who only had 5 minutes between their previous fixture and this one and they lost 3-0.
In basketball, the girls carried on their impressive run of form and swept away the opposition in the group stages to qualify for the semi finals. They were drawn against the winners of group, St Andrews (who else!) and narrowly lost by 3 points. The girls demonstrated true Regents Lion spirit and bounced back in the bronze medal match, beating the International School of Brunai in impressive style.
The students have been absolutely amazing over the past 3 days of competition and have been impressive not only in their sporting performance but with their sportsmanship and resolve. There have proven themselves to be excellent competitors both on and off the pitch (or court).

The One Day, One Goal Charity Football Competition hosted at St Andrews School was great fun event. The Regents Lions competed in all competitions from U9 to U15 and very much enjoyed the day, including all the fun stalls and food.
The U15 and U13 Girls finished in 2nd place, with the U13 Boys finishing in 3rd, a result for our Secondary teams.
The U9 boys were sensational! The teams' work ethic was always really high and was complimented by outstanding football. We controlled every game with Oliver in goal making great saves, Seion or Nick's strong tackles in defense, Oliver, Enzo or Alex running the midfield and either Stijn or Serveesh as strikers. In total we scored over 30 goals and conceded only 2. We ended the day as much deserved champions.
This weekend saw our U10 Girls compete for the first time as a newly selected team. As the tournament progressed our understanding of tactics and team work greatly improved and we went on to win 3 out of 5 games, which was an amazing achievement for our young lionesses.
The U11 Boys worked incredible hard in every single match and deservingly won a silver medal, missing out on the gold by just one point. Numerous goals from Takeshi, Lorenzo and Toby were only eclipsed by a couple of ‘worldies’ from Jaedyn. Whilst Joy, Alex and Harry worked tirelessly to keep the goals out, special mention to Ben who stepped up to play goalkeeper for the day and performed heroically.
Well done to all who played!
Wow what a day! Our first ever Nord Anglia Games gold medals in the boys teeball and we very nearly had gold medals all around!
Girls Games - Basketball
1st game - BVIS
With great offensive plays the girls looked brilliant going forward, creating space and plenty of shooting opportunities. Maddie had her hands up and got many rebounds. Jess scored two shots from the free throw line, enabling us to be up at the end of the first quarter. Jess continued to put pressure on BVIS as point guard, and all players listened well, developed their understanding of what their role on court was and played as a team. We won 9-4.
2nd game - BIS
The second game started off with strong plays from both teams and it could have gone either way. We were unlucky to go 6-2 down in the second quarter. In the third quarter Buth got herself in a fantastic space to score. In the final quarter we dominated the game with fantastic defending from Alisa which inspired the rest of the team to follow. Maddie scores the equaliser with 1 minute 30 seconds to go. With momentum in our favour and 2 minutes of added time, Regents dominated again. The shots were flowing but were not going in, this led to a basketball shoot out. Jess took the first and scored. Buth narrowly missed the second but with the score 1-0 and all three BIS students missing, Alisa stepped up and scored the winning basket and made us the winners of 7-6 game. All three girls did a brilliant job of holding their nerve and competing in the shoot out.
3rd game - Northbridge
After a long lunch break it took a long time to get going. As we started to wake up the baskets began to flow. With three baskets from Jess, one from Buth and Koapun we ended up dominating the game and won 12-6.
4th game - St. Andrews
This was the gold medal match! The girls competed against a very strong St Andrews side. Despite wave upon wave of St Andrews offence, we never gave up. We grew as the game developed. We were down by 12 points at half time but we persevered and the score didn’t reflect the quality of basketball we produced in the game. St Andrews played a strong game and deserved gold. Overall we deserved a silver and are very proud of what the girls have achieved this weekend. Maddy and Buth went on to win gold in the shooting stars competition. Well done ladies!
Boys Game - Teeball
1st game - BVIS
An excellent start to the tournament with Regents winning 20-10. After a change in the original batting order, the boys put in a superb display with the bat and worked hard to stop BVIS coming back into the game.
2nd game - BIS
Regents came out fighting with an excellent display in the field. We showed significant signs of improvement with brilliant catches and some tight fielding. Unfortunately BIS put on a batting masterclass and managed to narrowly win 16-14.
3rd game - NCIS
A convincing 20-6 victory for the Lions. Another amazing fielding display which limited Northbridge to just 2 runs in the first innings. Regents players demonstrated a vast array of big hits and dominated this match.
4th game - STA
we went into this knowing that a victory would mean that we were guaranteed a medal, but it would go down to how many points had been scored as Regents, STA and BIS were drawn on points. We shut STA out to just 4 runs in their first innings and had already won the game by the time STA came in to bat for their second innings. Regents needed to beat STA by 4 or more runs to win the tournament and we did precisely that on the last ball of the game.
It’s official! Regents are the 2017-18 Nord Anglia Games Boys Teeball Champions! An amazing performance from all 12 players. Worthy winners against excellent opposition.
Thank you to Mr Harrowell for leading the way this weekend and Mr Marwood and Mr Linine for coaching them during training this term.
What a day we have had! Medals all round for our young lions.
Girls Teeball:
First Game - vs BVIS
We opened our Teeball campaign against BVIS. With a strong fielding team we came in at the half way mark 7-3 up. Pitcher Jess and Alissa combined brilliantly to ensure not many BVIS players reached first base.
Painuan has the hit of the half, where she was just pipped Home by the ball to stop her achieving a much deserved home run.
In the second half we played superbly. Again, great combinations between pitcher and first base. A great team performance ensured we won 13-7.
Game 2 - STA - the local derby!
What a game. It was such a great opening innings. A great all round performance but just pipped by some great STA batting.
Although Jess dominated the fielding with two great catches and scored a home run, we could not stop STA winning 19-12.
Game 3 - BIS
First innings - Alissa started us off with a 'triple whammy', meaning 3 people out on one ball. She caught out the batter, tagged out the player on her base and threw out the player on 2nd. What a play!
There were nice link up plays between Jess and Mia to get players out at 3rd. The first innings was signed off in style by a home run by Jess. 10-4 to Regents at half time.
2nd innings:
We started the 2nd innings the way we finished the first - on fire!
2 catches in a row from Jess and some great fielding by the whole team made it 12 - 10 to BIS going into out last batting innings. We needed 3 runs to win.
With home runs by Victoria and Jane, Regents batted superbly and we were victorious with a score of 17-12.
Game 4 - NICS
We needed to win to secure silver and that's just what we did! The girls' spirit and confidence was high. With everyone on the pitch performing to the best of their ability, we dominated the game and lead 18-1 going into the Naga's last innings. Overall we were 18-4 winners and secured the much deserved silver medal.
All the girls performed brilliantly and we couldn't be prouder. Fantastic work by Coach Gina. Thank you for all your effort and hard work. The girls did you proud!
Boys Basketball Results
The boys worked extremely well as a team today and as a result came away with bronze medals!
The first game against BVIS saw the team dominate the game from the tip off. The Lions took possession in the first quarter with the score being 6-0. The second half of the game was much improved and the pace picked up. The lions had a stronger defense strategy and more successful shooting opportunities which led to a 14-0 win overall.
Although we lost to St Andrews with the end score of 15-6 this did not reflect the effort, determination and will power the lions kept up throughout each quarter! We had so many shots. Unfortunately we just could not convert them.
The team lost to BIS, however they fought on and never gave up. The Lions created many shooting opportunities but were unable to convert them consistently unlike BIS.
Lastly we were up against Northbridge. Both sides played some strong basketball but Regents again held possession with the final score being 10-2.
The boys all worked extremely hard as a team and developed as the tournament progressed and should be really proud of their efforts. We definitely are!
The girls came into this game a little nervous following their defeat to St. Andrews. However, those nerves quickly went away as we produced some excellent attacking football. Jess was dangerous as always and almost scored a great goal from the left wing, but she was denied by the woodwork. St Andrews were also playing well and it was them who got the break through to put themselves 1-0 ahead. The Lions are very resilient and responded perfectly with a goal less than a minute later. A great run down the right from Alisa followed by a cross allowed Victoria to score a stunning goal from the edge of area. Both teams continued to create chances, but it was St Andrews who again went in front after a slight mix up in the Regents defense. Again, Regents came back strong and Angie scored her 4th of the season after a great solo goal to make it 2-2 at half time. The second half was much like the first, with both teams playing well in a very tense game. Jess continued to be dangerous and again was denied by the woodwork late in the game.
The Lions almost scored a spectacular winner in the last minute as Victoria had a shot from near the halfway line that went inches over the bar. 2-2 the game finished with the U11 girls remaining unbeaten in the league.
The U10's Lions put on their best performance yet against St. Andrews. The team were strong from the get go. Our star defenders, Kayleigh and Jess, held off the opposition for much of the first half while our strikers, Pauletta and Miki made several good runs, with the help of midfielders Lily B and Kao-Pun. Our goalkeeper, Sarah also delivered a star performance, making many great saves.
Unfortunately a goal got through making the score 1 - 0 to St. Andrews by half-time. However, the team kept their heads held high and dominated the second half. They had many attempts to score with several of the shots narrowly missing their target thanks to both Tali and Lily G making some excellent runs. The final result may not have been in our favour, but this match showed the girls just how much they have improved as a team and as individual players.
As soon as the game started, they were very focused. Jess was dangerous from the start and her hard work paid off as she scored 2 goals in quick succession; one was a following a great run and a good finish into the bottom corner. The Lions continued to roar and almost scored a number of goals through Angie, but she couldn’t quite take advantage of the chances thanks to some good goalkeeping from the opposition keeper. Regents were fully on top and scored 2 more goals before half-time thanks to Victoria’s great strike and then from an unlikely source in Mia, who scored her first goal for the team. 4-0 it remained until half-time.
Regents continued to dominate the game and had many chances to score, but good defending was making it difficult to get the next goal. They finally did though and it was Mia again (who clearly now had a taste for goals) who made it 5-0 with a good shot from the edge of the area. Late in the game Mia then completed her hat-trick after a great run and shot at the near post. Jess came back on the pitch and then also completed her hat-trick with a very, very powerful shot that flew into the back of the net. A great win for Regents who are now unbeaten in their last 5 games. Full time score 7-0! Amazing. Well done girls. You made Mr Poppleton proud.
It has been a fantastic day here in Phuket and we are proud to announce that all 29 members of the U15 FOBISIA squad are now medal winners!
The third day of a three day competition is always physically difficult but the team showed no signs of fatigue and performed fantastically, winning bronze in both the boys football and girls basketball competitions.
We also received the overall results from the Athletics and Swimming, once again our Lions have come away with silverware finishing in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
3 days, 5 trophies and a staggering 104 medals!
Another scorching day here in Phuket, I can confirm the Regents Lions have continued their winning ways from yesterday!
The girls had a tough day at the football competition; after a slow start they picked up some momentum in the later part of the day to finish in 5th place in a highly competitive league format.
The boys basketball competition saw the Lions dominate in the group stages, progressing to the semi-finals from their pool in first place. Despite their best efforts the Lions lost out to KTJ in the semi-final. However, in the 3rd and 4th play-off match against Uplands, the Lions returned to their winning form with a convincing performance to seal the bronze medal and take the U15 FOBISIA medal tally to 80!
One more day and hopefully some more medals to go!
Wow what a day! Incredibly hot and humid conditions here in Phuket but the Regents Lions have been a true credit to us all!
They performed fantastically in the pool this morning, walking away with 34 medals. The afternoon athletics meet was was no different and through real grit and determination, they won an impressive 32 medals. This brings us to a grand total of 66 medals for a day 1, a great day's work, I am sure you will agree!
The team is confident and looking forward to increasing the medal count over the course of the next two days!
The Regents Lions have landed in Phuket and are all very excited and looking forward to the opening meal this evening.
Tomorrow they will compete in a swimming gala in the morning and an athletics meet in the afternoon. The first day is always very physically demanding for our young athletes.
The game started quite slowly, with both teams clearly still tired on their first day back off holidays. Soon though, Regents took control of the game and started to grow in confidence, with Jess creating many chances down the left hand side. Angie was brought on as a sub and within a minute had scored her first goal after a wonderful long ball from Jess. Minutes later, Angie had her second after winning the ball in the area and finishing well with her left foot. At half-time the score was 2-0. The second half started the way the first ended, with the Lions very much on top. It wasn’t long before Angie had her hat-trick as she tapped home a long range shot from Jess that would have gone just wide. Regents continued to create many chances and Jess eventually got her reward with two goals late on to help a comprehensive win. GIS did have some chances, but a wonderful performance by Mai in defence ensured their chances and shots on goal were limited. A wonderful all round performance from the girls saw a full-time score of Regents 5 GIS 0. A terrific start to the league.
The Regents squad included over 90 students and it was great to see so many students getting involved and challenging themselves over a difficult 3km course. A special mention should go to our medal winners across the various age groups:
Paloma - 3rd Girls U13
Lucas - 1st Boys U15
Luis - 1st Boys over 15
Ricard - 3rd Boys over 15
Great performances from those individuals and by all those who participated, a fantastic effort, GO LIONS!
The U10 boys recovered from their loss to St Andrews with a fantastic performance against GIS. They showed excellent team spirit after falling behind 1-0, and went on to win 4-2. Go Lions!
This was the boys' first home game of the season. With a rotation in squad players, the boys worked hard to form new playing formations and establish new roles within team. Despite a slow start and being 3-1 down at half time, our team began to settle, began to defend well and began to pass the ball more effectively in the second half and stage an epic come back! Everyone played fantastically and a big well done to Lorenzo, Joy and Saroot on scoring our goals to ensure we won 5-3! Well done to all the boys.
The Inter-house cross country has been taking place over the last 2 weeks in the Secondary PE lessons. The students have performed fantastically and shown real grit and determination in completing a demanding 3km run. The Cross country was our first house competition of the year and gave our students a great opportunity to challenge themselves and earn points for their respective houses.
The winning house this year in the Secondary school was Fire (Red house) by a staggering 51-point margin, with Earth (Green House) in second, Water (Blue house) in third and Air (yellow house) in fourth.
Congratulation to all those who took part and complete the Cross Country challenge!
What a fantastic start to our basketball season. The Lions ended the game, in just the same fashion as they started it. Well organised, confident and composed. We played great defence and turned over the ball on numerous occasions, which allowed for some excellent baskets to be scored. There were some great individual baskets scored by Manon, Hong Yok and Zainab, as well as some fantastic team baskets scored by Izzy, Ling Ling and Sophia. All the players worked so well as a team and this ensured we dominated the game. Kathleen and Hong Yok were great point guards and lead by example. Zainab was voted overall MVP for her excellent contribution to the game: Congratulations Zainab.
Well done to all players and thank you to all supporters and squad players who encouraged and cheered for the Lions throughout the match.
Over 30 keen members of the school swim squad, from Year 2 to Year 11, completed a challenging Duathlon course on Tuesday morning before school, combining distance running, a variety of individual skill stations along the way, and finished with a 300m swim in the school pool! With an excellent, supportive atmosphere created by the entrants themselves, the teachers and the supporting parents, all members of the squad (and the participating teachers) had a hugely positive experience, encouraging each other, competing in a friendly manner and celebrating a hugely successful event – well done to all!
Our Lions season started on Monday with our U9, U10 and U11 Football teams competing against St Andrews Garden Valley. All our squads were in action, for full match reports please see the schools social media platforms.
The first match of the season for the Year 6 boys ended in a closely fought defeat to St Andrews.
Despite having never played together before the team gelled well and scored two excellent goals in the 2nd half (Joy and Lorenzo). Debuts for Praneel, Saroot, Jaydin and Harry showed they will be pushing to start in future fixtures.
Vladimir gave a MOTM performance. Showing a total disregard for his safety, his performance in goal kept St Andrews in sight throughout the game.
Well played boys
GO LIONS!
After 50 students trialled for a spot on our Nord Anglia team, our coaching staff were faced with an extremely difficult task of selecting just 12 Boys and Girls from Years 5 and 6. I am pleased to confirm all squad players have been successfully selected and continue to train for the Bangkok tournament in December. Congratulations to those selected and well done to all those who trialled, it was an incredible turn out.
For any children interested in representing the Lions at the U10 and U11 FOBISIA competition during May in Phuket they should begin to look at joining these CCA options in the new CCA selection next term in order to improve their technical and tactical abilities (Football, Tee ball, Athletics and Swimming).
