British International School of Houston’s centralised library, known as The Agora, allows all students to share a naturally lit, common area for reading, reflection, or study. Our youngest to our oldest of students learn to navigate this university-like setting and become motivated by their interactions across year groups.
Additionally, overlooking The Agora, our oldest students in years 12 and 13 have their own dedicated space for socialising. This space has been carefully composed for university preparation, as students gain experience in studying for exams with the rigor of university-level academics.
BIS Houston has several facilities designed to encourage our students’ learning across the STEAM subjects and the visual and performing arts.
Our MIT-inspired Makerspaces have been equipped to support a variety of hands-on experiences and creative projects. Students learn how to use modelling, prototyping, and validation resources, for example, and can apply these skills to their projects in the arts, as well. Our Visual Art and Design corridor of studios is filled with additional equipment for visual art, design, and craft activities.
In the areas of music, dance, and theatre, our state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre – designed in collaboration with The Juilliard School – is home to an impressive 600-seat theatre, black box theatre, choral room, and dance studio. These facilities surround our students with first-rate resources that boost their development in creativity and performance.
British International School of Houston’s facilities include outstanding recreational spaces that have been designed to build our students’ athletic skills and autonomy – appropriate to each age group.
BIS Houston encourages all students to build their leadership skills from a young age by leading outdoor activities. The safe and secure Early Years wing of our school, for example, encourages play-based outdoor learning. This expansive facility includes a discovery garden, composting centre, sand pits, playscapes, winding bike paths, hills and tunnels, and green space.
Primary students have access to numerous spaces outdoors, including playgrounds with age-appropriate activities. British International School of Houston’s Middle and High School students, meanwhile, choose what recreational activities and sports they would like to participate in. For example, they may have a snack with friends while socialising in our green space or playing a basketball game on the court with classmates.
