What a great day our Dutch language community had on Saturday 16 March during our Culture Day 2019.
More than 40 students from both our in-school and after-school language programmes came together for a series of active workshops on the theme of Water. With almost a third of the Netherlands situated below sea level, we talked about polders, the ‘North Sea Flood of 1953’ and ended up reconstructing these historical facts in imaginative and creative ways. The students also participated in a poem writing’ contest, practised filtering water, tried to cross the ice (klunen) without slipping and learned how to rescue somebody in case of a falling through ice. The day came to a close with a fun family picnic with lots of tasty traditional food as reminder of home. We had a wonderful day with lots of learning going on, great community spirit but most of all.. lots of fun!
