Big Steps for Little Learners: Why Primary Years Matter
The school primary years are pivotal in shaping a child’s academic, social, and personal development. These formative years lay the foundation for lifelong learning, as children develop key skills like problem-solving, literacy, and numeracy while building confidence in how they interact with the world around them.
That’s why the Primary programme at Nord Anglia International School Abu Dhabi, is carefully designed to ensure every child has the best possible start to their education.
Supporting Growth and Development in Every Child
Small class sizes enable our teachers to truly understand every student, tailor lessons to their individual needs and strengths, and nurture each child’s academic potential while also helping them grow emotionally and socially. For these young learners, play is central to their development and is deeply embedded in our primary curriculum. From outdoor playgrounds and sports facilities to performing arts spaces, our campus encourages children to play, express themselves, and explore their potential. Our Year 1 and 2 have seamless access to an indoor play and learning space where they can explore, collaborate, and create. With reading corners, interactive play zones, and activity stations, this space inspires creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork. Students in upper primary have access to an outdoor playground and a variety of inspiring learning spaces where they can safely challenge themselves and connect with others in meaningful ways. These facilities are also spaces where friendships are formed, and social skills flourish.
Prioritising Wellbeing with a Balanced Day
We know that children thrive when they feel safe, happy and supported. That’s why wellbeing is woven into every aspect of our school day. Our Flexible Day gives students a calm start, with lessons beginning at 8:30 am. Before this, #MEtime allows them to choose how they spend their morning: whether it’s enjoying breakfast, trying a fun activity, or simply relaxing - at school or at home. Afternoon enrichment activities extend the learning experience, giving children opportunities to pursue their interests and discover new passions. This balanced structure fosters wellbeing not only for students but for the entire school community.
Inspiring Teaching and Curriculum
At the heart of our school are exceptional teachers who bring expertise, creativity, and care to every classroom. When our teachers thrive, so do our students. That’s why we make every effort to create a community and a working environment that supports everyone who cares for our children, ensuring they always bring their best to their classrooms.
Through our World Languages Programme, we nurture culturally aware global citizens ready to make meaningful connections wherever life takes them. Starting in EYFS and continuing through Primary and Secondary, students explore French, Spanish, German, and Mandarin, developing practical communication skills and a deep appreciation for diverse cultures. Tailored pathways for native and non-native speakers ensure all students thrive. This approach broadens perspectives, fosters empathy, and equips students to thrive in a connected world.
The primary years are a time of immense growth and opportunity, and at NAS Abu Dhabi, we take pride in giving every child the strongest foundation for their future. By combining exceptional teaching, a focus on wellbeing, and a holistic approach to education, we help children thrive, not just in school, but in life.
