On Friday, 28 May, our Grade 7 Social Studies class received a visit from guest speaker, Caspar Lysen, an urban designer.
As part of their Geography unit on the Big Idea of Respect, Grade 7 students have been working on the inquiry question of "How can we design a city for the future which meets the needs of communities and honours behaviours and processes that have proven merit?"
Students have been working on city project proposals, and their teacher, Ms Rose Vu, invited a professional in the field of city planning in to speak to her students. Mr. Lysen, an urban designer for VenhoevenCS, works on sustainable architecture, urban development and infrastructure. VenhoevenCS specialise in the design of self-supporting cities and emission free buildings, the development of micro-networks that make recycling and synergy possible, the revitalization of building types, multiple land utilization, compact building and innovative facade concepts. They believe that the social and cultural aspects in all these subjects are of big importance.
Mr Lysen was invited to NAISR to talk to our students about urban design. After his presentation to our Grade 7 Social Studies students, he then listened to each of the students' city project proposals and gave them individual feedback.
This was a wonderful opportunity for students to hear first hand from a professional in the field on the topic of city planning and urban design.
Thank you Mr. Lysen for sharing your knowledge and feedback with our students, we greatly appreciate you visiting us at our school.
