Carmel Shu

Carmel joined NAIS Pudong in September 2002 after working as an English teacher in a local Chinese middle school. She wanted to experience and understand international schooling and the British curriculum, as well as the different ways of teaching and learning in the classroom. Carmel is the longest-serving staff member at NAIS Pudong.

Carmel’s first role was as a Teaching Assistant, which broadened her knowledge of teaching in an international school. After one-and-a-half years, she started to work as a Primary EAL teacher which saw her return to the field she was focused on before joining the school.

In 2011, she transferred to the secondary school Mandarin department as she was interested in adapting the teaching methods she learned and experienced into an environment with older students.
