NAIS Pudong Scholarships
Ahead of last week’s Christmas Fair, the Early Years and Primary classrooms were buzzing with parents who were invited into school for our termly Student Showcase. This is an opportunity not only for our parents to meet with teachers, and to learn more about their child’s progress across the term, but also a time for our students to present to their parents on subjects linked to their learning up to that point.
While our Early Years students already put on a festive and heartwarming Christmas production earlier in December, they also enjoyed spending time with their parents in classrooms creating festive arts and crafts as well as making and baking gingerbread figures. While this is a great time to spend time together, it’s also a great way for them to demonstrate their communication skills, highlighting new vocabulary and the confidence that has been built in demonstrating those language skills. For our youngest students, it’s also a chance to show their fine motor skills (such as scissor usage, pen holding, and hand-eye coordination), as well as collaborative work.
In Primary classrooms our students delivered presentation to parents on a huge range of topics, including Super Humans & Animals, Plants & Insects, Inventions, Rainforests, Animal Adaptation, and Fantastic Forces. These topics encompassed 3D printing skills, usage of green screen technology, creating quizzes, public speaking, experiment demonstrations, poetry recital, and much more.
All of the sessions aimed not only to build confidence in our students in terms of their presentation skills, but they also showed clearly how we nurture creativity in everyone. More so, it’s a wonderful chance for parents to see first-hand the kind of progress their child has made so far, developing a clearer understanding of the way in which our students learn. This complements the range of other ways in which we communicate student progress to parents, including through Class Dodo updates, Academic Review Evenings, termly reports, and via an open-door approach to engagement. We look forward to what Term Two has to bring!
In the final of our series of alumni spotlight articles, we speak with Matthew Ward, a professional football player in England who spent six years at NAIS Pudong before departing in 2019 to take up his current role as an elite sports star!
At NAIS Pudong, we strive to achieve our values, one element of which is building confidence in our students to help them better prepare for life after education. But what about building the confidence to question one’s approach and strategy in tacking tasks or ideas?
On the last day of Term One, Principal Diane Vaughan conducted the termly Principal's Awards, this time celebrating the outstanding contributions of students who exemplify one of the school's core values of being considerate.
On 9th and 10th of December years 7-9 students were given the chance to debate on a given present-day topic. A debate is a structured discussion where individuals present and defend their viewpoints on a topic, aiming to persuade others with well-supported arguments.
