Year 4 Students: Zotter Chocolate Theatre Trip
Our Year 4 students had the amazing opportunity to visit the Zotter Chocolate Theatre to learn all about where chocolate comes from and how it is made.
Students were greeted upon arrival by the delicious aroma of chocolate in the air before being led into the cinema room to watch a short documentary about the family-run chocolate business. They then visited a room filled with different types of cocoa beans from all over the world where the guide explained to everyone how cocoa beans are grown and harvested, and how they are transformed into the chocolate that we all love to eat.
During a tour of the chocolate-making process, students watched in awe as the cocoa beans were roasted, ground, and mixed with sugar and other ingredients to create the smooth and creamy chocolate that we are all familiar with. We even got to sample over 100 different variations of chocolate!
Creativity abounded soon after when students got to make their own chocolate creations. They chose from a variety of toppings such as nuts, fruit, and sprinkles to decorate the chocolate bars, ensuring an unforgettable experience for all and a newfound appreciation for the sweet treats we all love so much.
Secondary STEAM Activities in KS3
NAIS Pudong is thrilled to have had a series of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) activities in Key Stage 3 (KS3). The objective for this year is to provide students in Years 7-9 with a holistic learning experience that combines various disciplines. The integration of STEAM activities aligns with our commitment to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on problem-solving skills among our students. In addition to STEAM being showcased throughout various classes and lessons, we have also incorporated STEAM in a broader scope via ICT classes, the STEAM club, and through STEAM days.
A significant focus of the STEAM initiative is on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) classes in KS3. Students have delved into the world of logic gates and explored their applications and relevance. Practical activities included working with breadboards, manipulating LED's, transistors, resistors, and understanding voltage. Moreover, students have gained insights into machine components by disassembling devices such as PC towers, projectors, keyboards, and mice. Additionally, for Python we are at the programming stage, which covers concepts like variables, data types, IF statements, FOR loops, and will eventually culminate in a larger programming project the students will devise and program themselves.
The STEAM club - an integral part of our initiative – has also engaged students in exciting challenges. Participants have taken on a few Global Campus challenges, showcasing their problem-solving skills. The club has also embarked on a project involving an obstacle-avoiding Arduino car. Students undertook various tasks, including assembling an acrylic frame, attaching motors and sensors, soldering wires, and programming the Arduino microcontroller. Those committed to continuing in Term 2 are learning to use the Arduino IDE and programming language to bring their projects to life.
ACAMIS Basketball Competition
