I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our students and parents back to school. I have no doubt that this year will be a rewarding learning journey for all members of our school community. We are indeed very fortunate to enjoy the safety and security of our NAIS Pudong home during these challenging and uncertain times.
The academic year commenced with many of the social distancing regulations still in place. However, some requirements linked to mask wearing and restrictions on creative and sporting activities have been relaxed. In this regard we are delighted that we will soon be able to resume a rich and varied CCA offering. Our range of sporting, cultural and academic CCAs are designed to enhance formal classroom-based instruction by activating learning in real life contexts. Details will follow in due course.
Being a member of the NAE family gives our students the unique advantage of accessing learning opportunities provided through our collaborations with MIT, Juilliard and UNICEF. To enrich our collaboration with MIT even further we unveiled a brand-new state of the art makerspace in the B Block. Furthermore, our Design Technology space has been reimagined as an enhanced STEAM makerspace.
As a passionate IB Practitioner, it was with immense pride that I welcomed our incoming Year 12s at school on Tuesday. They turned up looking smart and professional ready to tackle the rigours of the programme. Following their outstanding participation in the Academic Bridging Programme coupled with excellent IGCSE grades they are well placed to become successful lifelong IB learners. We are also very proud of the IB Class of 2020 who achieved an impressive 36 average points score. This outcome continues our proven track record as a well-established IB school that supports students to achieve their potential.
This year, I have no doubt that our secondary school will continue to thrive. We have already implemented several exciting developments such as issuing reports using the Pudong Parent Portal. This year we continue to ensure that our outreach is sustainable and innovative. In this regard our important secondary communications will be published using the Secondary Bulletin. This will be an important source of information throughout the academic year.
Please click here to access this week’s edition. Our Bulletin uses the Sway platform which allows for live updates. These will be signposted by email.
I wish all our students, parents and teachers a well deserved and relaxing weekend and look forward rich and fulfilling week of learning in the weeks and months ahead.
