Parent Update - 7 October 2016

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

As ever it has been a busy and exciting week with more lesson observations, meetings, interviews and, of course, the Year 5 Poetry performance.

I have enjoyed visiting various classes and seeing the teaching and learning that is going on.  I have learnt about continents, oceans and the continental drift as well as BODMAS in Year 6 Maths classes.

It was also great to see how well the PTA are doing. They have lots of good ideas for future events and have already sold over 1,000 tickets for the Halloween Spooktacular.

Clearly the high point of my week has been the Year 5 Poetry performance. I am amazed, and very proud, to see so soon in the term the confidence shown by all the Year 5 pupils in memorising and reciting poetry.  Congratulations to everyone involved.

Enjoy your holiday weekend.

Mr Cooklin

Principal

JURASSIC GARAGE VISIT YEAR 4 - WHEN THE ANIMALS CAME TO SCHOOL!

It’s not every day that you get to meet a Macaw, handle a Hedgehog, or stare at a Snapping Turtle or Snake, but this week our students did just that! Getting up close and personal with the weird and wonderful that nature has to offer, this informative session gave us all a better understanding about ecology, biology, wildlife and conservation. Thank you Jurassic Garage for a day with a difference. We’re sure our students will be talking about this for weeks, if not months, (and even years) to come.

Pictures of this unique experience can be found on our our Facebook page.

NORMAN JUPITER BEAR TRAVEL UPDATE

We hope you all remember our furry globe-trotting friend Norman Jupiter Bear. Last year he joined our school and was named by our Year 1 class. And whilst they were sad to see him leave to launch his global adventures, they couldn’t wait to see where he went. Like a modern day Phileas Fogg, he has since visited Beijing, Thailand, Singapore, Qatar, Slovakia, Switzerland, England and most recently, been in Hanoi, Vietnam. Everywhere he has been, students have been filled with joy to meet him, extending their learning in a myriad of ways and making more connections with their Global Classmates in Nord Anglia schools around the world. Watch this video to see where he has been and what he has been up to:

Just in … Norman has arrived in Mexico where he is visiting our San Roberto School in Monterrey. To keep up with him and his adventures, log into our Under 8s section on the Global Campus Online website. Also, Norman is very much a 21st century digital bear so you can also keep up with him by following the hashtag #Normanjupiterbear on Twitter.

SHOEBOX APPEAL 2016: 31st October – 4th November

The Box of Hope is back! Help encourage the gift of giving in your child, whilst helping to make a difference in other children’s lives by getting involved in this wonderful campaign. We’re hoping to beat last years staggering donation of 375 boxes, and need your help to achieve this!

All you need to do is fill a shoebox full of small toys and resources for a child who would ordinarily not be in a position to receive a gift at Christmas.

Check out their competition too where you can win the chance to help deliver the boxes in Hong Kong. Visit www.boxofhope.org to learn more.
