One of the most important aspects of career success is having the knowledge and skills to impress during job interviews. Recently, Year 10, Year 11 and Year 12 students at LIS secondary school had the opportunity to gain insights into this critical area at an interactive workshop conducted by HR expert Mrs. Asiya Khan, a member of the LIS parent community.
Mrs. Khan’s session focused on the importance of preparing for a job interview, which she said was key to making the right impression. She taught the students about undertaking research prior to the interview, the types of questions to expect and how to answer them, and the appropriate way to dress and conduct oneself.
The students were also provided with tips for responding to difficult questions as well as for situations in which they are unsure of how to respond. Mrs. Khan also provided guidance on how to handle a job offer, including how to negotiate the salary and other benefits.
This was followed by an interactive workshop conducted by university counselor Mr. Joe Cho on setting career goals and getting ready for university. Mr. Cho spoke about the need to focus on the right subject areas, make use of career resources and consider developing a personal network.
The interactive workshop was well-received by the students, many of whom felt that it had provided them with the knowledge and skills to help them achieve their career goals. Overall, the event was a success and will likely go a long way in helping the students make the most of their school and career opportunities.
