Q:What brings you to Léman International School Chengdu?
I have been living and working in China for the past 9 years, 6 of those have been in Chengdu. Throughout my time in Chengdu, I have always been made aware of the astounding school that is Léman. The school has an incredible reputation within and outside of the international community for providing outstanding results and creating a supportive learning environment for both teachers and students alike. I am very excited to join such a wonderful community and look forward to helping the school and students achieve their goals.
Q:Can you please introduce yourself to our LIS community?
My name is Matt Fletcher and I am originally from Staffordshire in the United Kingdom. I have been teaching English in China now for over nine years and have experience in many areas of English Language teaching as well as in curriculum design and development. I have a Bachelors degree in History, an International Post Graduate Certificate in Education and a Diploma in English Language Teaching and Management from Trinity College London. Chengdu is my favourite city in China and I am very settled here along with my wife and two dogs.
Q:Why did you choose Nord Anglia Education to expand your career?
Nord Anglia has a fantastic global reputation and support network for teachers. I believe that my teaching philosophies are in line with that of Nord Anglia and I am incredibly excited to grow and develop along with the experienced teachers that are here. Nord Anglia has provided an engaging learning environment for thousands and thousands of students and I cannot wait to be a part of helping Léman students to thrive and grow in this unique setting.
Q:How are you going to work with your students to encourage them “To Be Ambitious”?
I believe that all of my students can accomplish their dreams. Thinking big and setting achievable and realistic goals are essential for success. I thrive on helping students become aware of this early on in their lives and strive to do everything I can to help every one of my students become the global citizen that they set out to be. Hard work, determination and passion will be evident throughout my classes. I hope that this inspires my students to exhibit these essential qualities.
Q:What do you like to do outside of school?
Outside of school, I like to take part in a variety of sports, such as football and cycling. I also enjoy travelling to new places throughout China, usually with my wife and two dogs. I am really into my photography and often like to experiment with different genres and collect the occasional vintage camera when I see a good bargain. I am also a big music fan and enjoy listening to live music and playing my guitar whenever I get the chance.
Q: What do you plan to bring to the school?
I am very excited to bring my previous experience and apply this within the schools own philosophy. I am a very passionate and enthusiastic person and hope to bring a sense of engagement and excitement to my classes to motivate students to achieve their goals. I cannot wait to get started with extra-curricular activities and work with students on developing skills and finding new passions in and outside of the classroom. Above all else, I will bring a truly memorable learning experience for all of my students that will ultimately help them to thrive and succeed in what they want to do.
