Message from the Principal

I enjoyed meeting many of you this week during our latest parent workshop, presented by our Athletic Director Mr. Tom McCabe, as he discussed not only the importance of Physical and Health Education, but also spoke of wellbeing, good nutrition and getting enough sleep to positively impact students lives and ability to be successful at school.  Whilst we do of course focus on academic performance and look to provide opportunities for our students to achieve highly, it is important to consider all of the factors which help this, such as eating right and being physically active to promote whole child development.  Our next workshop is coming soon, and will be presented by our Early Years Coordinator, Ms. Tiffany Taylor.  She will be joined by our new Head of Primary, Mrs. Tracy Connor, this being her first chance to meet a number of you.  I am looking forward to it already.

Speaking of Early Years, our youngest students were visited today by the Fire Brigade!  They saw a demonstration of how to put out a fire and how a firefighter gets ready, as the visiting firefighters spent time with our children.  It linked wonderfully to their current learning, and the children were delighted to be able to see exactly what they have been learning about in lessons being brought to life.

With the House System being relaunched we are seeing many exciting events and the tubes are filling up in the foyer with the house chips! The most recent event was the Design a CNY Card. The 5 winners, one from each age category, saw their creative work professionally printed and for sale. It was so inspiring to see students lining up, eager to buy their peers' artwork. This was also a fund-raising event for the worthy cause of Hopeful Hearts, which Léman have supported before.  The school have donated the proceeds of over 2,000 rmb to Hopeful Hearts and we look forward to being able to do more.

Finally, I would like to share recent student success in competitions on Global Campus.  A massive congratulations to Eva Sun (Year 3) and Yurika Nukada (Year 4)!  Both students were awarded a special mention in the ‘Age up to 9’ categories for the NAE Virtual Musician of the Year 2021  -  Eva for ‘Popular Voice’ and Yurika for ‘Instrumental Modern’.  They both received their certificates in assembly this morning and were very happy to be awarded this honour.  The standard of this year’s competition was incredibly high and there were 1300 entries, from 61 schools.  A great achievement for the students, their teachers and our school!  Also, Santiago Pat Martinez in Year 5 was shortlisted for Creative Writing Competition 2021 in the 8 to 11 category.  This is another fantastic achievement and a great result for him, with his certificate arriving soon.  Do keep checking Global Campus for new and exciting competitions during the rest of the year.  I am very proud of Santiago, Eva and Yurika for their amazing efforts – well done!

Have a great weekend,
