English and Maths follow the objectives of the ENC while most other subjects (Geography, History, Science, Art, Technology, Physical Education, and Computing) follow the International Primary Curriculum (IPC), helping our students grow a global mindset from a young age. The curriculum also emphasises Personal, Social, Health and Emotional (PSHE) education which, along with our framework of academic excellence, puts personal development at the centre of our Primary education.

Students enjoy exciting and meaningful enquiry-based units both independently and in groups. They work towards our eight Personal Learning Goals, key qualities which help them develop emotionally and socially. The aim of the Personal Learning Goals is to develop character and attitudes, in addition to knowledge, skills, and understanding. These goals are unique to the IPC and empowers children to confidently state,

LCIS offers level-adapted French options, ensuring excellent language acquisition tailored to each student’s academic ambitions. This means students can control the intensity of their language learning in line with their personal goals.

Lower Secondary students (Years 7-9) follow a curriculum programme that prepares ideally them for IGCSE and the IB Diploma Programme.

Our curriculum content ensures rigour and challenge in developing knowledge and understanding. At the same time, the focus on core competencies enables students to flourish holistically, developing academic practice alongside self-management and critical thinking skills.

Students continue to develop their language proficiency in two or more languages by studying English, French, and German or Spanish.

A strong pastoral PSHE (personal, social, health, and economic) programme, service opportunities, and inter-disciplinary connections are all essential components of our curriculum. Their purpose is to provide students with opportunities to apply their learning authentically, giving them leadership opportunities and empowering them to make connections between their learning and the real world.

The IGCSE is an exam-based programme in which students take seven compulsory courses (English Language, English Literature, French, Mathematics, and a choice of three out of four sciences) and three options. At LCIS, we teach the IGCSE alongside a key IB element as part of our unique blended curriculum: Theory of Knowledge (ToK). Outdoor Education, Service and Action, assemblies, and PSHE complete our holistic approach to Secondary education.
The IGCSE is one of the world’s most respected academic qualifications and gives students a tried and tested springboard for a successful future education, both in their IBDP and beyond.

Students must study one subject from each of Groups 1–5, and another from either Group 6 or an additional subject from Groups 1–4. Three subjects must be studied at Higher Level, and the other three at Standard Level. The six subject groups are:

Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature

Group 2: Language Acquisition

Group 3: Individuals and Societies (Geography, History, Business Management, Economics)

Group 4: Experimental Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Design, Sports Science)

Group 5: Mathematics (Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches; Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation)

Group 6: The Arts (Visual Arts, Film, Music, Theatre)

For each subject, students receive a grade of 1–7, with 7 being the highest. Students also study the DP core, comprising Theory of Knowledge (ToK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the extended essay (EE). Through the DP core, students reflect on the nature of knowledge itself, conduct independent research, and complete a project that often involves community service.
