LC Project Days: A Castle Under Siege Year Four's latest STEAM project, 'A Castle Under Siege', was a contextualised mix of their: Integrated Curriculum topic, 'Medieval Me'; Science topic, 'What's That Sound?' and Computing topic, 'I'm a Musician'. CopyofIMG_9963

As with all our STEAM projects on Lower Campus, our students had to show their creativity and cooperation skills to effectively complete this project.

The students created hyper-realistic, scaled-down models of a medieval castles out of cardboard, foam and other materials; made miniature attackers, defenders and showed multiple attacking strategies, such as trebuchets and archers; professionally presented detailed information about the various features of the ancient castle and their siege features; composed a piece of medieval music background with sound recording, such as metal clanging and people shouting.

Our Year 4 students have continued to develop their leadership skills throughout the year and are now able to effectively plan out and delegate tasks to ensure their STEAM projects are completed to an excellent standard.

The final castles looked amazing, with careful thought and consideration being placed into presentations, with some specifically being designed to look derelict, exactly as it would have looked after a particularly damaging siege and destruction. One such example is Stirling Castle and its conquest by the English army in 1304.

Our castle's STEAM project was a huge success and allowed our students to present the information that had been learned over the course of the past six weeks of lessons.

Next up for our Year 4 students is an inquiry into Roman times, as well as learning about natural disasters in Science. This will culminate in the students making a model of a volcano as well as a Roman town to think about ways in which lives could have been saved in Pompeii and Catania.
