Our IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)
At International College Spain (ICS), Madrid, our 5 to 11-year-olds follow the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP).
The PYP curriculum is inquiry-based and designed to develop caring, curious, reflective, and open-minded global learners. Through immersive themes and topics, our international primary school students gain an understanding of how different subjects relate to each other, as well as to the world around them.
The six IB PYP units of inquiry are:
- Who we are.
- Where we are in place and time.
- How we express ourselves.
- How the world works.
- How we organise ourselves.
- Sharing the planet.
Through these units, your child will develop key skills, knowledge, and understanding in science, the arts, maths, languages, social studies, and physical, social, and personal education. They’ll also learn how to apply their learning to a range of situations.
At every stage of their primary education, your child will receive the expert care and attention they need to grow personally, socially, and emotionally, too. They’ll also enjoy a breadth of learning experiences beyond the classroom, including day and overnight trips, extra-curricular activities, and opportunities to make a difference.
