Yesterday, students at Collège du Léman experienced the opportunity of a lifetime - to learn from and perform with Michelle Ross, an internationally acclaimed violinist and alumna of the world renowned Juilliard School.
Michelle flew in from New York to Geneva to conduct exclusive workshops with students aged from 9 to 18 years old, culminating in a breathtaking performance to parents and friends of the school. “My two sons have both considerably increased their musical skills since they are at Collège du Léman, seeing my son playing alongside such an international performer tonight makes me very proud.” said Mrs. Elena Sarpakis-Lemos, mother of twelve-year-old Stelios.
The event was part of an innovative collaboration between Nord Anglia Education and The Juilliard School, allowing students at Collège du Léman, Collège Champittet and La Côte International School to benefit from an enhanced embedded arts curriculum developed by specialists from Juilliard, along with continued support from, and engagement with, Juilliard alumni and affiliated artists.
It was also a taste of an upcoming two-week ‘Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard’ programme running from the 9th to 22nd July, and hosted at Collège du Léman. Open to children aged from 10 – 18 years old from around the world, the programme offers children the unique opportunity to learn music, dance and drama from artists affiliated with this world leading performing arts conservatory. Parents can find out more at naejuilliard.school/summer-arts.
‘The benefits of this collaboration go beyond the Performing Arts’, said Collège du Léman Director General. Thomas Schädler, “as recent research has demonstrated, education in music, dance and drama benefits all areas of a student’s academic and pastoral life’.
