Family support plays an enormous role in the development and wellbeing of students. That’s why Collège Champittet has set up our Parent Academy: a series of expert-led workshops providing parenting resources, tips and advice to our families.
We kicked off our Parent Academy in January with an excellent conference delivered by Allison Ochs on parenting in a digital world. A specialist in the field of education, Ochs works with students, parents and educators to navigate this complex topic. During our bilingual French-English workshop, she discussed strategies for families to establish digital rules. The conference also addressed trends in online activities among children and teens, the risks and potential harms of online interactions, and how to develop a family media plan tailored to each household’s needs and goals.
Raising children in the digital age presents many challenges that we are encountering for the first time. At Champittet, we believe that it’s crucial for children to learn about online safety and how to use digital technology wisely. It was wonderful to see many of our Champittet parents join us for our discussion at Café 1903 on January 30th. We know that these issues are very important for our community, and we will continue to hold activities that raise awareness among parents and students alike.
For more information on digital wellbeing, you can follow Allison Ochs on Instagram @allisonochs or explore the resources available through her digital citizenship consulting company EDIT change management. In addition to her work as a social educator, Allison Ochs writes and publishes the “Oscar & Zoe” series as well as collections of stories for children and teens, blending creativity with educational engagement.
More than 500 NAE students worldwide – including 25 of our own students from Collège Champittet played over 2,000 games of chess during the global online chess tournament !
In the race to ensure that students have mastered their various subjects, there is a skill that schools sometimes overlook: learning how to learn.
