Christmas is magical time for our Champittet community to celebrate together and make a difference. At our bustling Christmas market in December, we enjoyed craft workshops, holiday snacks, mulled wine, a visit from Santa Claus and much more, with all proceeds going towards the non-profit Jan & Oscar Foundation.
Held for three days in our Villa des Sciences garden, our Christmas market was great fun for Champittet children, families and staff. From our students who created handicrafts for sale to our Christmas carol singers, the whole Champittet community participated in making this year’s market a joyful time for all.
Our holiday entertainment included face-painting, performances by our student rock band and choirs, a living nativity scene, and a delightful Christmas sweater contest. In addition, we held a Christmas raffle, with unique prizes such as travel vouchers, skiing lessons or voucher for the TechSpark Academy youth camp. Through our Christmas raffle and Christmas market sales, we raised CHF 26'000.-, all of which has been donated to the Jan & Oscar Foundation.
The Jan & Oscar Foundation was created by Laurence Pian in memory of her children, Jan – a Champittet student – and Oscar, who lost their lives in the Asian tsunami of 2004. Ever since, Collège Champittet has supported the Jan & Oscar Foundation, which improves educational opportunities for Thai children by building schools and providing scholarships. Through the Collège Champittet Foundation, our students also participate in humanitarian trips to Thailand, making a difference on the ground through practical projects.
In 2024, Jan and Oscar’s surviving brother, Lennart, embarked on a four-month fundraising journey, riding his motorcycle from Switzerland to Thailand to honour his brothers and build a better future for underprivileged children. We are proud to contribute to this noble cause through our Champittet Christmas market, and we thank you all for your generosity and solidarity!
