Roll up your sleeves – it’s gardening season at Champittet!

Spring is nearly here, which means it’s time to prepare the grounds of our gardens! Gardening is a beloved part of our extracurricular programme here at Champittet. Tending a garden is a great way for students to learn more about local ecosystems, different plant and animal species, and the environment. At our lakeside locations, gardening also lets kids enjoy outdoor activity while reconnecting with nature in peaceful surroundings.

At our gardening workshop, students discover first-hand how an edible garden works, honing their green thumb along the way. Naturally, spring is key for preparing the soil and planting seeds, but the workshop takes place year-round as students learn about the different seasons of gardening.

Gardening also gives kids the chance to develop new skills, both physical and intellectual. In our workshop, students learn how to use gardening tools, compost, plant seeds and experiment with seed varieties, care for fruiting trees, and harvest fruits and vegetables. And gardening isn’t just about the plants – our students also build insect houses and animal shelters to promote harmony in the environment. In fact, learning about the interaction between different plant and animal species is crucial to maintaining a garden. Did you know that introducing certain plants can help keep fight weeds? Or that you can attract insects like bees to help with the pollination of your garden?

There’s nothing like gardening for kids to discover an ecosystem in action, and enjoy the fruits of their own labour.

We can’t wait to watch our gardens bloom!
