Since coming to Vietnam and starting her teaching career at BVIS in 2022, Ms. Poppy Broom, a Year 1 teacher has been passionate about education from a young age.
"My mother was a teaching assistant. Her enthusiasm for her work inspired me to pursue Primary Education Studies at the University of South Wales, which led to my becoming a teacher," she shares.
From her early days on the job, she realised that her work wasn't just about teaching and conveying knowledge. The early years are crucial for each student to build a solid foundation for comprehensive intellectual and character development in the future. This realisation encouraged Ms. Poppy to choose a career in primary education, where she could contribute to and create an engaging, experience-rich learning journey—a place where students nurture their souls, develop good qualities, and foster a spirit of curiosity and love for learning.
"I lead by being kind, patient and caring with the hope to instil these good values into the children. Sometimes, they become role models for the younger students, which also builds their confidence and their social skills," Ms. Poppy says enthusiastically.
As a dedicated teacher, she understands that each child is a unique individual with their own needs and abilities. Always seeking to adjust her teaching methods to be suitable and engaging for each student, she aims to create a learning environment where children feel safe, heard, and encouraged.
Mr. Duy, the parent of Year 3 Khả Lâm, shares, "In the early days of Year 1, Khả Lâm was not very confident in class or when interacting and playing with friends. Ms. Poppy encouraged her to express ideas freely, be creative, and not be afraid of making mistakes. Khả Lâm has become much more confident and independent compared to before."
At a young age, timely encouragement helps students build confidence and a love for learning. Ms. Poppy's praise goes beyond recognising high achievements; it also acknowledges individual progress and continuous effort in daily school life. In Ms. Poppy's classroom, children will discover a fresh world of learning, filled with exciting projects and activities that encourage them to explore and create on their own.
"When learning feels like play, the love for learning will naturally grow," she adds.
BVIS understands that teacher quality is one of the top factors that enable students to learn and develop to their fullest potential throughout their journey of self-improvement. A school with excellent teachers can be recognised by how happy and eager students are to attend every day.
Dedicated and skilled teachers often take the time to understand students in terms of their personalities, learning styles, challenges, strengths, and what motivates their growth. This allows them to address not only academic needs but also the personal needs of their students.
As a member of the Nord Anglia Education, BVIS continuously seeks dedicated teachers with a mission to nurture a generation ready to create positive change. Thanks to collaborations with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Juilliard School, and UNICEF, BVIS teachers bring flexible and creative teaching methods, encouraging students to confidently explore and pursue their ambitions. This is what sets BVIS apart, along with other schools within the prestigious Nord Anglia Education.
