On Monday, August 12, 2024, BVIS had the honour of welcoming Dr. Leslie Williams, the Senior Programme Lead for Social Impact and Giving and the Global Chairperson for Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) at Nord Anglia Education.

Dr. Williams' visit held particular significance for the BVIS teaching staff as the new 2024-2025 academic year approaches. During her visit, she participated in and led professional workshops for teachers, focusing on Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging.

In an educational setting, EDIB ensures that all students and staff feel valued, accepted and respected, regardless of their backgrounds. It helps create a learning environment free from discrimination and bias, while promoting the development of critical thinking skills.

By posing questions like, “What kind of attitudes and actions do we want to inspire in our students? How can we best support colleagues in fostering an environment that embodies our EDIB values?”, the workshops equipped teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills to support and develop students comprehensively, while also promoting an inclusive and positive learning environment.

Dr. Leslie Williams' visit provided all staff with invaluable lessons and motivation on their journey of learning and development. Our school believes that, with Dr. Williams' guidance and inspiration, BVIS will continue to maintain and foster a diverse, inclusive, and socially responsible learning environment throughout the 2024-2025 academic year and in the years to come.
