Our Year 3 students recently embarked on an exciting project that ingeniously combined their previous unit on dinosaurs with their current unit on chocolate. This innovative cross-curricular endeavor transported the students into the Secondary Design Technology classrooms, where they were introduced to the principles of identifying problems and using the design process to create solutions.
The challenge presented to the students was to redesign a chocolate brand to make it more child-friendly. This task involved multiple stages, including creating new packaging, designing dinosaur-themed chocolate molds, and developing an engaging Point of Sale display for the final product.
Throughout the project, students demonstrated remarkable creativity and problem-solving skills. They brainstormed and sketched their ideas, considering how to make the chocolate appealing to children both visually and functionally. The dinosaur theme added an extra layer of fun and imagination, inspiring the students to think outside the box.
We hope that this project has not only been enjoyable for the students but also left them with a lasting curiosity about the world around them.
By asking questions like, "Why is it here? What problem did it solve? How can I make it better?" we believe our students will continue to develop their critical thinking and design skills.
