Being part of NAE (Nord Anglia Education) is much more than just teaching within the world’s largest premium schools' group. In order to ensure that teachers and school leaders develop and refine their skills and personal pedagogy, events that focus upon bringing teachers and leaders together are organised on a regular basis.
This week, 8 members of the BVIS HCMC team travelled to Hanoi to attend this year’s Regional Teaching and Learning Conference. The event was led by colleagues in our sister schools of BIS Hanoi and BVIS Hanoi and was based upon the topic of Innovation – as always, it was a resounding success.
But what do NAE teachers and school leaders do during such conferences and how does this positively impact our own school and the learning community within it?
Firstly, delegates attend a series of workshops, led by NAE teachers and lead from across our Southeast Asia, Middle East and India Region.
This year, workshops ranged from shaping schools to become more inclusive and neuro – affirmative to developing innovative and collaborative curriculum design. Additionally, other workshops offered practical and up to date information about AI, long term memory enhancement and how to support multilingual learning within a classroom (to name but a few).
In addition to over 70 workshops offered across the 2 days, delegates also had the opportunity to listen to a keynote speech delivered by Dr Elise Ecoff (Chief Educational Officer for NAE), regarding how we as schools across Nord Anglia should continue to cultivate a culture of innovation within school and always be willing to take risks for learning.
Dr Ecoff’s presentation mentioned the book “Iterate: The Secret to Innovation in Schools” by Justin Reich who writes, “Innovate at all levels of the school ecosystem by continually experimenting with new approaches and making changes based on the results, over and over again.” This is what we continue to focus upon at BVIS, across all areas of our school to ensure that all BVIS students receive the very best in premium quality, educational experiences.
Finally, bringing people together is vital in making and maintaining positive, professional relationships and helping us to develop a global connectedness that is part of our school’s strategic plan and NAE’s Educational Strategy.
Sharing an important takeaway from this event, Mr. Simon Higham, Principal of BVIS, said: “We are part of something unique and special with innovative and forward–thinking teachers who are proud of what they do and eager to share their successes and cutting–edge practice with others. BVIS HCMC are a strong part of the Nord Anglia Education family – the world’s largest premium schools' group.”
Our new learning, thinking and personal/group reflections will be taken back to school and shared with colleagues for them to think how they can innovate and how our students’ learning will benefit from it.
We are all looking forward to next year’s conference in Jordan.
