Our Year 5 students had a exciting trip to Mekong Delta with full of stimulating, fun and challenging activities for the children
Day 1 (21/02/2024)
After travelling by bus, we arrived at the Hotel in Can Tho and had a wonderful lunch which served typical dishes from the Mekong Delta. We carried out an evacuation practice to ensure all children know what to do in case of emergency; we were very impressed with how swift the drill was. The afternoon was filled with a rotation of four exciting activities including swimming games, challenges of the five senses, lotus origami and 'Dancing the Mekong Moves'.
The children learned so much from these well-planned and thoughtful context-related activities as they could have a real taste of what it would be like living in the Mekong Delta. We were so proud of the children’s engagement, effort and behaviour. We look forward to sharing with you the first-hand experiences that the students gain from the Day 2 activities. * Update from Ms. Suong Nguyen, Year 5 Teacher
Day 2 (22/02/2024)
Day 2 has passed with an exciting itinerary. At My Khanh tourist village, the experience of fishing truly captivated the children, despite initial hesitations when dealing with mud. Folk games like the sack race, 'Chi Chi Chanh Chanh' and tug-of-war were also introduced in a humorous and competitive manner. Rowing on the lake was voted by the students as one of the most favourite activities there. Visiting Uncle Sau's garden was also a valuable experience, as the children were warmly welcomed by the local community. They were guided to make traditional cakes and enjoy the fruits of their labour. Along with that were treasure hunts, tree planting activities, and making souvenir items from coconut leaves, which strongly reflected the essence of the South East Vietnamese people. A day full of activities but still not enough, as the children had a fantastic night with the Talent Show program, where they had the opportunity to shine in their own unique ways.
Day 3 (23/02/2024)
Teachers were truly impressed as they checked each room in the morning. Everything was neatly arranged, with luggage placed tidily in suitcases, ready for checkout. Despite only having half a day left, there were still many exciting activities awaiting the students. Their teamwork spirit was evident in puzzle games and quizzes about the Mekong Delta.
They discussed and proposed various strategies to overcome challenges. Next up were the MeKong Trivia and Action Bingo games. With lively hosting, students laughed heartily and had the opportunity to showcase their talents, such as balancing a water bottle or performing dances they learned the day before. Finally, the baking activity using cereal and dried coconut, a favourite among many students. Some even asked for the recipe to share with their families. After lunch, the whole year 5 team returned to school, concluding the residential trip. Students wished the trip could have been longer. It was truly a fantastic experience for year 5 students, fostering beautiful memories with friends and developing essential skills for future experiences in the coming school years.
