Mr. Simon Higham, Principal
Dear Parents
Welcome back to school for all of our BVIS families – both those who are returning after the break and those new to our school community. I trust that you had a restful and family orientated Tet holiday - Chuc Mung Nam Moi and a Happy New Year!
Every New Year brings new opportunities for learning across our school. I am pleased to report that our students have returned full of energy and enthusiasm for learning – they continue to be a credit to both you and to Nord Anglia Education.
I always find that this part of the year is highly productive as students have settled well into their classes, forged strong relationships with their teachers and peers and fully understand their next steps for their learning.
Over the weekend, ask your child(ren):
This week, our teachers completed their final non pupil day of the year. Across the year, we set aside 8 of these days in order to ensure that our teachers come together and receive high quality, continued professional learning opportunities. These days are vital in ensuring that we not only employ the best but also develop them to be even better.
On Tuesday, our A Level musicians performed to an exceptionally high standard in the A Level recital evening – well done to everyone involved from preparation to performance.
On Wednesday, our Year 5 students embarked on their annual residential experience. We are all looking forward to hearing about their experiences when they return to school on Monday. For more information about the trip, please see Ms Mary’s Highlights below.
With a total of 352 responses, giving us an overall response rate of 43%, I look forward to collating our school data and reading through the many comments that were made.
A summary of the main findings, together with how this helps to shape our school’s strategic planning, will be shared with all parents in March via email.
Should you wish to contact your child’s Class Teacher(s) or Form Tutor directly, we encourage communication to be written in the language you most feel confident to use.
Parents may also find it useful to contact their child’s class teacher(s) or form tutor directly for all individual queries about their academic work/social and emotional wellbeing in school. Individual contact details can be found in the Parents' Handbooks or via our Primary/Secondary Receptionists.
On behalf of everyone within our school, I wish you a very safe and happy weekend ahead.
Mrs Mary McAloon, Head of Primary
This week saw our first primary residential trip of the year. The Year 5 team have been working hard for several months now with our expeditions partner, Asia Motions, to plan and prepare a rewarding trip full of exciting experiences that will remain with the students as fond memories forever. The three-day trip allowed students to immerse themselves in life in the Mekong Delta, where they experienced many typical activities for the people living there. Activities included mud fishing, canoeing and cooking where students worked as a team to complete fun challenges for their school’s house. Next week, I look forward to sharing some of the students’ and teachers’ reflections on their learning and development here in the Weekly Highlights.
Mr Toby Bate, Head of Secondary
This week saw our A Level musicians perform their performance pieces as part of their examined course. Liszt, The Eagles and highlights from Frozen were on show as pianists and guitarists took to the stage. A wonderful afternoon of music-making, well done to all musicians involved.
The next live lunch performance slot took place today, with some wonderful performances by students across a range of different year groups.
Next week also gives the chance for our IGCSE musicians to showcase their talents afterschool. Please come along and support the students as they perform. Please come along and support the students as they perform.
Please register via the Microsoft Form if you’d like to attend.
In our specialised BVIS art rooms, Year 10 students have been busy carving shapes into lino blocks and creating reduction lino-prints. In this process, a single lino block is carved away layer-by-layer to create multiple colours – this is a very challenging and complex process. Flowers, birds and landscapes have come to life as the students have beautifully captured local natural forms in their designs and print work.
