BVIS Horticulture club and Eco-club collaborate to fundraise for our Global Garden Project

The Global Garden is a project run by the Horticulture Club and Eco-club students at BVIS. It encourages eco-friendly thinking, problem solving, financial awareness and a commitment to making the world a greener place. Students meet at the club twice a week to make plans, care for plants, maintain the area, and discuss how they can recycle, reuse and regenerate. The students also often visit the garden in their breaktimes and lunchtimes for mindfulness and a moment of reflection after their inspiring lessons.

This week, the students along with Ms Mumby-Cole, Mr Every and Ms Hart, decided to run a "flash sale". This involved selling plants to their teachers that had been specially grown with the goal of raising funds to maintain the garden and expand it further. Many of the plants have either been grown from harvested seeds or propagated from existing plants, therefore maintaining the reuse and regenerate mindset of the Horticulture Club students. All the pots used were recycled, either from plants that had outgrown their small pots, or from water bottles that had been recycled for a new lease of life!

Staff enjoyed being able to choose plants to decorate their classroom and the students were excellent "salespeople". They helped the teachers choose plants based on aesthetics, durability and size. The students raised nearly 3 million vnd to continue to fund their project, and learnt valuable lessons about customer service and product requirements.

Mr Spong, of the Geography department, who purchased 5 plants to decorate his room said "I loved it, and it worked. They really got the sales!"

Well done to all involved!
