Admissions Open 2025-2026
Risks of Technology
Firstly, let's understand some of the risks by exploring early child development. The importance of eye contact in early childhood cannot be overstated; it plays a crucial role in attachment building, language acquisition, and social skills development. However, excessive technology use can hinder these vital interactions, leading to social and behavioural issues.
Research indicates that early exposure to screens, particularly television, can negatively impact attention spans. For example, research has found that children who watch more TV between the ages of one and three are at a higher risk for attention problems later on.
As children grow and use devices more regularly, it is important to be aware of how technology can impact attention span, behaviour, and decision-making. Dopamine, a neurotransmitter linked to pleasure and reward, can create a cycle of dependency on digital devices. Instant gratification from social media notifications and gaming can lead to addictive behaviours, reduced attention spans, and mental health issues. Over-reliance on technology for these dopamine hits may impair decision-making and contribute to feelings of anxiety and loneliness, especially when online interactions replace face-to-face connections.
Parental Guidance and Support
As children grow, it’s essential to guide their technology use. Parents should encourage activities that promote critical thinking and creativity while maintaining a healthy digital footprint. Setting boundaries, such as designating device-free zones and monitoring app usage, can help cultivate responsible habits.
Active parental involvement is key. Studies show that children benefit from parents who take an active role in their internet experiences, fostering balanced relationships with technology.
Recently, the workshop "Navigating Technology: A Parent’s Guide” was successfully held, where parents came together to discuss strategies for managing screen time, building healthy technology habits, and leveraging technology to support children's learning and development. Don't forget to stay updated on our upcoming events and join us to connect with the parent community, share real-life experiences, and support each other in the journey of parenting!
