Visit from Dr Rebecca Lee
On Tuesday, our children and teachers were very lucky indeed as we were treated to a visit from Dr Lee, a professional explorer who has travelled to the world’s coldest, hottest, highest, lowest, Northernmost and Southernmost destinations.
On Tuesday 15th September, the Year 4 children and teachers were very lucky indeed as we were treated to a visit from Dr Lee, a professional explorer who has travelled to the world’s coldest, hottest, highest, lowest, Northernmost and Southernmost destinations; a woman of many contradictions, you might say!
She spoke to the children about her adventures and what she has learned on her journey so far. We learnt a lot about how our actions can affect the environment and wildlife, especially in the coldest parts of our planet, where the polar bear, the king of the arctic, relies on ice for their homes. There is no land there and the creatures live right on the floating ice.
The biggest takeaway for me personally and for the children I have asked was the firm message that whatever your dreams may be you must believe that you can achieve them and work hard to take steps to move you in the right direction. As the old proverb goes, “A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step.”
Finally, I’d like to say a sincere thank you from myself and all of the children to Dr Lee for taking the time to come and talk to us. Thank you!
