Last month, BSN participated in The Nord Anglia Maths Challenge for students in Years 5 to 8. The activity was launched across the Nord Anglia community with numerous campuses stepping up to the challenge. The central theme of the event was Mathematics in China to celebrate the achievements and input that China has contributed to the field.
Introduced by students at BISS Puxi, the event involved a number of Chinese New Year themed exercises to welcome in the new Lunar Calendar, such as zodiac puzzles and Tangram animal creations. The event culminated in a video competition for students to express their take on mathematics within China.
Year 5, who were inspired by the Tangram Puzzle Activity, produced video entries of different tales, while senior classes concentrated on the impact of learning mathematics in China and the cultural attitude towards the subject. Using their creative, collaborative and innovative skills, the BSN students produced some excellent video entries, truly embracing our Ethos of Be Ambitious and Be a Risk Taker.
This week the winners of the competition were selected, and BSN is delighted to announce that a submission from Year 5 for the Video Competition was chosen. Organisers of the event, Mr James Callan and Mr Ian Robertson of BISS Puxi, praised the efforts of the BSN students and provided congratulatory comments for our Year 5 winning video entry,
“Congratulations to The British School of Nanjing with their Year 5-6 video, “A Tangram Story”. It was a lovely, colourful, tale with a range of Tangram designs and some great narration work! We also loved the images that BSN sent of their student making Tangram pictures.”
