With a slight breeze in the air, but clear blue skies above, footballers from schools across the region kicked off the first round matches this afternoon at The British School of Nanjing as part of the NAE China Region Global Games 2019 Under 11s Football Tournament.
Having arrived safely - spending several hours in planes, trains and hotel lobbies – we welcomed 18 boys and girls ' teams from different schools in NAE China Region.
The players were given a bite to eat, a chance to stretch some muscles and a last minute pep talk from their coaches before games began.
Inspired and raring to go, the shots have been flying in as the first match saw 5 goals scored. With teams looking forward to as many as 11 matches over the coming 48 hours, these first games are setting the standard in terms of quality football, but the picture of who progresses to the cup, the plate and the shield will only start to become apparent as the competition progresses tomorrow – we’ll keep you posted as to the state of play!
