Many of our students are engaging with the activities and discussions and having a great time. A very challenging day for our year 6's and 7's.
As planned we split into two groups. One did the bike trip and the other did some exploring of the Tulous and a brisk hike. Today I'll talk you through the biking experience and tomorrow you'll get the other day's activities.
We woke up in the morning to a good breakfast in the Fuyulou tulou, prepared by our gracious hosts. Bikers got a bike safety lesson and practice test ride. The day started out wet and humid and the students found it hard to manage biking on cobble stones but once we got on the road it was good fun and the weather cleared up quite quickly.
It was absolutely incredible to see our students demonstrate so much character today. Many who were quite nervous about going up and down hills did a great job and were often encouraged by others. We made it up and down some steep hills huffing and puffing, always keeping two fingers on the brakes. One or two students took a tumble but they got right back up and started riding again with much support from their friends and from our excellent staff.
We stopped for lunch at a nice little place where we also bought some delicious dried mango. The Hutong staff took us to a derelict Tulou to discuss a little about how they decay when nobody takes care of them. As an afternoon activity, we went to a small Tulou run by some very nice old people and the children had to build their own model Tulou out of mud.
We finally cycled back to Fuyulou. After a wonderful dinner we saw some of our students' own Tulou themed dramas, which were quite a laugh!
