Richards use of linked spreadsheets and personal student Google Drive folders has not only allowed him and other teachers in Nanjing to have a simple, central and shareable way of tracking student performance, but also incorporates students self assessment as well. This achieves a very effective flow of information between teachers to students, and allows students to become much more aware of their own progress enabling them to put their performance in context, be involved in target setting and develop a self-analytical approach to learning. Importantly this is all achieved without extra demands on teachers and makes feedback to parents much richer. I have found the Google Drive student tracking very convenient and I have seen improvements in student awareness about their attainment and also how to improve it.
