BSG Guangzhou Scholarships 2024/25
Year 7-10 students recently completed their residential week in Hong Kong with our partners, The Hutong group. Aside from being a hugely enjoyable experience, residentials provide our students with a unique and transformative learning experience that extends beyond traditional classroom settings. These programmes are designed to foster personal and interpersonal development, instilling essential life skills and fostering a profound sense of self-discovery.
One of the most evident educational benefits of our residential programmes is the emphasis on experiential learning. Students are taken out of their comfort zones and exposed to challenging outdoor environments, requiring them to confront obstacles and solve problems in real-time. This hands-on approach not only enhances critical thinking and decision-making skills but also cultivates resilience and adaptability. Through activities like ziplining, rock climbing, hiking, and team-building exercises, BSG students learn to navigate uncertainty and develop a deeper understanding of their capabilities.
Last week, our Year 7 to 10 students were placed in leadership roles, encouraging them to take initiative, communicate effectively, and collaborate with their peers. These experiences contribute to the cultivation of qualities such as responsibility, empathy, and teamwork, which are essential both in academic and professional settings.
Many of our students went on a journey of self-discovery, as they were challenged to explore their own values, strengths, and limitations. The wildness of the Hong Kong coastline, inland trails and natural surroundings provided a conducive environment for reflection, allowing participants to gain insights into their personal goals and aspirations. This self-awareness is a crucial aspect of holistic education, as it fosters emotional intelligence and a deeper connection with oneself.
Our thanks to the BSG teachers who accompanied the groups, to The Hutong instructors, guides and support staff, who were fantastic and to the team back at BSG base who organized many aspects of the trip and kept a watchful eye on everyone, albeit from afar!
