BSG Guangzhou Scholarships 2024/25
The British School of Guangzhou hosted the final of the BSG Young Musician Award which took place in the BSG Theatre from 19.00 – 20.30 on the 23rd of November. The event saw the participation of seven students from The British School of Guangzhou and three students from Nord Anglia School Guangzhou Panyu. These young musicians graced the stage with performances that showcased their proficiency and dedication to their craft. The competition was adjudicated by a panel of three professional judges, who meticulously evaluated the performances based on criteria; Performance, Technique, and Musicality. The repertoire presented by the students ranged from advanced classical pieces to contemporary Jazz, demonstrating the breadth of their musical abilities.
The evening commenced with a captivating rendition of Max Bruch's 'Violin Concerto No.1 In G minor Op. 26 1st Movement', setting the tone for an evening of musical excellence. The programme featured an eclectic mix of compositions, including works by renowned composers such as Felix Mendelssohn, Frédéric Chopin, and Johann Sebastian Bach. Notable performances included 'A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square' by Maschwitz and Sherwin, 'Misty' by Garner, and 'Nocturne in D flat Major' by Frédéric Chopin, each delivered with a remarkable display of artistry and technical prowess. The students also exhibited their versatility through compositions such as 'Concert for Trombone and Piano or Orchestra' by Launy Grøndahl and 'Prelude, Op.3 No.2' by Rachmaninoff.
The evening culminated with a breathtaking showcase of talent, with each participant delivering a performance that left a lasting impression on the audience and judges alike. The dedication and passion displayed by the young musicians were truly commendable, reflecting the talent of music amongst the student body at BSG.
BSG held a successful International Day charity event on Saturday, thanks to the hard work and dedication of supporters from across our whole school community. The event featured country stalls from Poland, China, Great Britain, Korea, China Taiwan, Ukraine, Belgium, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Kuwait, and Malaysia, making it a truly diverse and inclusive affair.
Staff, parents and students have been helping with projects over the Christmas holiday and bringing joy to others.
The Primary Music Showcase took place on Wednesday, November 15th and was a huge success!
