It is with a profound sense of pleasure and pride that I get to write this blog entry. I have been at the school since 2012, wearing many hats along the way, and I am thrilled to be taking on the new role of Assistant Head this year. I have been part of our school’s incredible journey and am looking forward to helping shape our school’s future.
Although I know many of you reading this, my ego is not big enough to stop me from realizing that I may need to introduce myself to some of you for the first time, so I will start with a whistle-stop tour of how I came to be part of the BISC-LP community.
I grew up in East London and attended college at the University of East Anglia. After graduating, I took a series of unfulfilling jobs – working for a multinational media company, a construction firm, and a non-profit - before returning to university to train as a Primary teacher. My first teaching post was at the neighborhood school I attended as a child, and after a fantastic four years there, I moved to Chicago and have enjoyed every moment of my time in this wonderful city.
It has also been lovely to see my two children, Siobhán and Eddie, grow up in the school. One of my favorite times of the day is when we are sat at the dinner table as I love to hear about how their day has gone and all the exciting things they have done. Being a parent and a teacher gives me a unique experience in our school, and I will use this viewpoint to benefit all the children in our school.
In closing, I would like to make one last point; I love our school. Over the years, I have come to realize that BISC-LP is not solely made up of the physical buildings at 814 and 821 W. Eastman St., but of the learning, inclusiveness, and laughter that exists in our classrooms and corridors. My aim in this new role is to do all I can to maximize these aspects of our school, and I am looking forward to working with you all to do so.
