How long have you been at BIS HCMC and what has been your most significant/impactful BIS experience?

We moved to Vietnam in 2014 and I’ve been in this school since then. It is very difficult to pinpoint just one experience but my favourite ones are: the MIT trip as it was super exciting; travelling with FOBISIA for music; having the opportunity to run the Economics Club, and being a part of all the musical activities within our school.

What makes BIS special?

I think the best thing about BIS is that we as students have the opportunity to be exposed to and take part in such a diverse range of activities like the ones I mentioned. It is true for me and for other students I know, that we feel encouraged, empowered and supported in doing the things we are interested in, both for academics and otherwise.

How long have you been at BIS HCMC and what has been your most significant/impactful BIS experience?

I have been at BIS since year 3, so this is my 10th year now. My most significant and impactful experience personally has to be a Math FOBISIA competition all the way back in year 6. As the first time going to such a large competition, and winning something, it really fuelled my desires to compete as I grew older, that it has become an integral part of me.

What makes BIS special?

Personally, what stands out the most to me about BIS is the community network behind BIS supporting it. From the PTG to the extensive list of community partners, this can seen in the various fairs and bazaars yearly. The prestige and history behind BIS are another aspect which cannot be rivalled by any other school, which is something I personally have seen grown.

How do you feel about being made BIS Head Student?

Honestly, I am still processing it through, and I was extremely shocked for a long period after receiving the news. I feel incredibly honoured and will try my best to be a representative of the school.

What do you hope to achieve in the role?

I aim to ease communication between all the different areas in and outside school life, as well as promoting and creating new leadership opportunities. One of my goals over the next year would be to establish a long-term team, which focuses on environmental changes on a larger, school scale size. I hope that the changes implemented would not have to rely on individual actions going against the norm but changing the system as a whole.

How long have you been at BIS HCMC and what has been your most significant/impactful BIS experience?

I joined BIS in the summer of 2020 with the intention of staying here for no more than a few months. This semester will mark my third year. My most impactful memory came only two months into my BIS journey during the International Day Culture Show. The cheering and singing along were what really made BIS “it” for me. I reflect on that event very fondly as I have for every event that followed.

What makes BIS special?

Coming from much smaller schools, I was initially so intimidated by the size of our campus. Yet, I soon realised that the support the community has to offer is unlike anything that I have ever witnessed and is truly unparalleled. It made it feel so much closer than I would have expected and that closeness is what I believe sets it apart.

How do you feel about being made BIS Head Student?

I can find no better word to capture it better than “wow.” It is just so surreal that I have such an opportunity and such a privilege to work with the incredible individuals that make up our school.

What do you hope to achieve in the role?

I believe coming into the role of Head Student also comes with the promise of maintaining the values we have worked hard to keep and I believe that is the support we have for one another. It is our community’s voices and our care that will ultimately make those tangible changes and I wish for my time here to facilitate this process as best I can and to keep our suggestions heard.

How long have you been at BIS HCMC and what has been your most significant/impactful BIS experience?

As of now, I have been a part of the BIS community for six years, since Year 7. I'd say my most significant BIS experience would be my involvement in music within the school; the opportunities and support of the music team have had a lasting impact on my school life.

What makes BIS special?

What makes BIS special to me is the strong sense of community that is present within the school environment; it's like no other school I've ever been to.

How do you feel about being made BIS Head Student?

I am honoured to take over the role of this year's wellbeing head student. With great power comes great responsibility, and I'm looking forward to helping make a difference within the school community.

What do you hope to achieve in the role?

In addition to the many initiatives that are already in the works, I hope to work closely with the student body in order to ensure that all corners of the school community are represented and help drive positive change.
