It’s been a busy week at the Junior Campus for both parents and students with a number of parent presentations taking place.
It was wonderful to welcome so many parents to various meetings and events over the last few weeks. EAL Webinars, PTSCs, Welbeing workshops, MFL Webinars and more to come. We hope that parents have found the sessions useful as we navigate this period of Virtual Learning. Next week, teachers look forward to returning to school in some capacity and we hope to share the new classrooms and learning environments on camera with the students, particularly our new students to BIS and our Year 3 students who join us from the Early Years and Infant Campus.
Every day, I receive the attendance reports for the Junior Classes and I am delighted to see strong and steady engagement. Last week we looked at learning from every year group, every subject and the quality was impressive. This week is no different. Take a look at some of the great work taking place in ICT, PE and Year 5.
Over the past few weeks, Year 4 have been learning about the app Keynote in their ICT lessons. We have created many presentations about a range of topics from being a Digital Citizen to creating a tutorial and finally retelling a story.
The students learned a range of different skills:
For our final project, students chose stories from their culture, country or chose a story they knew well. Have a look at the amazing Keynote creations from some of our Year 4 students!
Luke Dyer, ICT Leader
We may not be in school but we can still learn! Over the last few weeks we have been focusing on Athletics including the triple jump and sprints. The children have been learning new techniques, practising them and creating teaching videos to teach family members! Most of all, the children are having fun! Some great tasks are being completed this week in all lessons. It’s great to see siblings and parents getting involved too!
Mr G, PE Leader
Year 5 students are given some time each week to work on their Passion Projects. Passion projects are an opportunity for children to follow their passions. There are many forms a passion project may take; it could be a model, a presentation, a series of photos or videos or teaching a skill to the class. Some passion projects will be long term projects, others may just take a few hours. It might be an opportunity to learn a new skill or develop existing skills. All creative and original ideas are welcomed. Once complete, students will share their projects with their classmates and teachers. Current Passion Project ideas include coding, baking, cooking, card-making, playing chess and origami. Year 5 teachers have been amazed at the wonderful range projects underway at the moment. Well done to all Year 5 students! Keep working hard on your projects and continue to follow your passions!

On behalf of Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, we would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in this challenge - your enthusiasm and generosity in support of the event has been overwhelming!
We are thrilled to let you know that we raised a total of VND 129,624,275 which has placed us fourth on the BDCF Top Teams list but most importantly, will be used to save and impact the lives of victims and survivors of human trafficking as well as disadvantaged children nationwide .
Congratulations to the Early Years and Infant Campus who raised the lion’s share of donations! Our youngest students may not have the longest of legs but they certainly have the biggest of hearts and reflect the care we have as a school for our local community.
Blue Dragon would also like to invite you to submit any images together with comments and reflections about your experience by sending them to schools@bdcf.org where they will be published on their ’School’s Corner’ website. They will be celebrating all the walkers/runners of this year’s event and would so enjoy receiving your thoughts, information of where and how you walked together with photographs and videos.
Please see this lovely video of the JC campus students and staff in action, prepared by Ms Michelle Thom, Community Leader, Junior Campus.
Thank you again from the BIS Community Service Team for your support.

BIS Community Service Project Manager
Thank you to all the parents who joined our ASC team, Ms Saskia, Ms Zara and Ms An, for our Parent Wellbeing Workshop on Thursday. ASC stands for Advice, Support and Counselling, and the role of the team is to provide exactly that for all members of our school community. Primarily, they work with our students, but are also available to anyone who needs their help.
They covered a number of areas during the workshop including the importance of not being too hard on ourselves or our children during this lockdown, the importance of taking care of ourselves, and that it is okay to make mistakes in our parenting so long as we reflect and then look to repair the ‘ruptures’ that we create. Our children know that we love them. You can watch the workshop again by clicking on this link:
Also if you would like to look again at the slides and access the resources and videos that were shared, please click here:
It’s tea time and if you are receiving this before 3pm, you are in time to watch the live Premiere of our Tea Time Recital. After the live Premiere you will also be able to watch it back at your own leisure.
It will contain pre-recorded performances from 11 students from Year 3 - 6 and will feature violin, guitar, piano, voice and ukulele items from SeoHyun 5I, Erin 3N, JunSeo 3V, Nami 4M, Kathy 4S, Robbie 5B, Kaiko 5H, Aariana 5I, Kyubo 5C, Emily 6H and Alvin 6H.
We invite you to prepare afternoon tea and to sit back, relax and enjoy the wonderful music our young performers have created for you. If you would like your child, from any year group, to feature in a future Virtual Tea Time Recital please email Ms Anna for further details (anna.hogan@bisvietnam.com) A big thank you to all of the wonderful students, parents and instrumental teachers who have spent time preparing these for our enjoyment.
Our Virtual Tea Time Recitals are an opportunity for our talented students to perform and share their skills to bring joy to our community. Regardless of whether they are a beginner or more advanced, pupils are able to experience the art of performing pieces they have been practising to further develop their performance skills. This results in them feeling a real sense of achievement when they have performed, and they reap the rewards of their hard work and dedication.
If you would like your child, from any year group, to feature in a future Virtual Tea Time Recital please email Ms Anna for further details (anna.hogan@bisvietnam.com)

The next instalment of this competition is the NAE Global Campus 5k Virtual Race. This event is due to take place from Saturday 16 to Saturday 23 October.
As the distance is significantly longer than the first race, for those of you wishing to enter, I am giving you sufficient time and information to form a training programme for this event.
The event is available to all students from Y1-Y13 and to all fitness levels. If you wish to walk the entirety of the 5k virtual race as a personal challenge and for self-satisfaction then that is fantastic. Please complete it at your own pace and still send me your time.
However, if you would like to attempt to run some or all of the race then I have included information below that may be off help:
The website that are helpful for both advice and training programmes are below:
SIS 3 week 5k training programme (applicable to EYI and Junior Campus children)
Below is a very simple 3 week training programme to safely reach the distance of running the 5k. This plan is available and individual to all as it is based on a percentage of maximum intensity and speed of running. This will gradually build up to the 5k distance and includes rest periods if required. However, it is advised that this should only be attempted if you have a good base level of fitness and an interest in endurance running.

Please note that if you are able to train for and run the 5k race outside the following should be done before participation:
If you would like to enter this competition, please complete the SIGN-UP before 3.00pm on Friday 15 October.
Once you have signed up you can complete the race anytime between 16 – 23 October and submit the RESULTS to me before 5.00pm on Sunday 24 October.

We’re excited to share with you plans for our first whole-primary Global Campus Challenge Day which will take place next Friday 8th October. As a Nord Anglia Education school we have access to a fantastic range of activities that are designed to develop children’s curiosity, creativity, problem solving, and learning skills outside of the usual classroom subjects, through our Global Campus platform, and we’d like to make use of these enriching activities.
Next Friday, we’ll have an extra-ordinary day at BIS Primary where we will take some time away from our usual timetable and away from our laptop screens in order to take on the Rube Goldberg Challenge.
Ms Dee will launch the Global Campus Challenge Day in a special assembly on Friday morning. Children will be able to ask their teachers any questions and then it will be up to them to work on the challenge. There will be an opportunity during the day to check in and let the class know how they are getting on.
All instructions will be shared next week, including a video that will be shared via seesaw on Wednesday 6th showing your child how to access the GC website as well as how and where to look for the challenge but in the meantime please get prepared by making sure your child can log on to Global Campus with their school .com account. You could also keep hold of any boxes, plastic cartons, string, ribbon, etc. that come into your home this week.
We’re looking forward to this exciting whole school challenge!
Deirdre Grimshaw
Headteacher of Junior Campus
