It's the summer holidays!
This term, our Key Stage 3 Art and Design Technology students have been focusing on Lino Cuts and Pewter Casting. Let’s find out a little more about these projects with Ms Williams and Mr Diver...
The learning focus for these workshops is to engage the students with a traditional ‘crafting’ process, using lino and cutting tools, followed by a range of monochromatic and coloured hand-printing processes.
The students develop a series of detailed prints using single cut and reduction stages. These printing workshops teach a range of mark-making skills and graphic precision using a traditional and handcrafted technique.
The students develop both their cutting and printing skills and enjoy some immediate and refined results.
Year 7 and 8 have been learning about manufacturing techniques in this Pewter Casting Project. This focused on the materials ability to be reformed and reshaped by melting into a liquid using heat in the workshops and pouring it into moulds.
Students had designed on screen for their client group and key ring, developed their designs into moulds, and cut these out on the laser cutter. The students have been in awe of their abilities to get some really cool key rings, which have been through a finishing technique to make them shine like jewellery.
Fantastic integration of design skills on paper, computer design and manufacturing of moulds, and traditional techniques of casting metals. Just another DT success!
Ms Janet Williams, Head of Art
Mr Chris Diver, Head of Design Technology
At BIS HCMC we deliver in school a comprehensive wellbeing curriculum to provide our students with the tools, resources and support to balance their social, physical, emotional and mental health. As part of this, we also look at preventative measures to ensure the safety of our students beyond BIS and equip them with knowledge and skills for both today and their future success in the wider world.
This term we were extremely fortunate to welcome back into school experts from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City’s Regional Security Office (RSO) to discuss more on the topic of drugs and substance abuse with some of our students and parents.
