Animal, Rescue and Care in F2 Community service is a significant practice at BIS. One of the main aims of our Community Service Programme is for students to learn to take responsibility towards people, animals and the environment.

Community service is a significant practice at BIS.  One of the main aims of our Community Service Programme is for students to learn to take responsibility towards people, animals and the environment.

For our youngest children in Foundation Stage 2, we begin to develop an awareness of this practice by letting Animal Rescue and Care (ARC) come into school and show the children how to care for animals. Last Wednesday, Ms Koto from the ARC team visited us with toy dogs for the children to be able to practise taking care of them. She showed the children what food pets should eat and drink, how to carry them and how to make them a comfortable home. On Monday, Ms Koto and Ms Mel, volunteers from ARC, together with Dr Nghia, the lead Vet from ARC and Saigon Pet Clinic, visited us with two real dogs and a cat. The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and were fascinated to share their learning space with three animals for the morning. They learned how to approach the pet dog and some even had a chance to pet the animals and hear the animals’ heartbeats. What an experience!

ARC is a charity organisation which rescues cats and dogs in need. They are based in Ho Chi Minh City and they provide medical treatment, vaccination and nurturing of cats and dogs before working to rehome them. Crucially, they give love and attention to animals which have been abandoned and abused. Just recently, ARC was chosen Number 13 of the Top 45 Dog Rescues in the World by Top Dog Tips! Congratulations to our friends at ARC, a deserved recognition:
