On Wednesday, Year 5 welcomed their next IPC topic of ‘AD900’ with a morning of an ancient empire fashion parade and a collection of activities which celebrated the rich history of civilisations.
We saw a multitude of colours and creativity in the student’s costumes, reflecting a great diversity in which empires they researched and represented. Following each class’ strut on the catwalk, they then placed themselves, according to their chosen character, on a large timeline. Afterwards, the whole year group was split into their 4 houses for a carousel of activities: ancient empire top trumps, Mayan maths problems, ancient empire games and famous world sites of lost civilisations.
Well done to all the children and parents for their efforts with the costumes. The day certainly provided that spark to ignite fascination and intrigue into our human history across the globe. The following weeks will see us explore the Mayan Empire specifically and the more localised impact of the Khmer Empire. Exciting learning ahead!
