Last Monday, two Year 8 classes took part in a Mini Science Fair in order to think and communicate like real scientists.

They had spent 2 weeks designing, researching, planning, carrying out and analysing the results from a project they chose themselves.  Their whole experiment was then written up and displayed in the undercroft for visiting parents, teachers and other students.  Projects included research questions such as:

“Does microwaved water affect the rate of growth of seeds?”

“Does Sting make you run faster?”

“How does the strength of a magnets affect the voltage induced in a wire coil?”

“How does temperature affect the brightness of glow sticks?”

“How does the type of music affect people’s concentration?”

“How does temperature affect the gas pressure in coca cola?”

The end displays were incredibly impressive and the knowledge and understanding of the students was outstanding. They were asked some very challenging questions and could answer them superbly.  The projects were judged by Year 12 science ambassadors and teachers, and the overall winners were:

8V: Mel Chung, Tyler Carriaga and James Yeh

8I: Mimi Tran, Joseph Kim, Joseph Kang and Arno Heens

Well done to every single student who took part.
