As part of staff continuous development and to ensure staff have access to training in new and emerging technologies, it’s always great to have a chance to play, try out and experience and learn from the experts.
This week’s inset provided great opportunities to upskill and ‘up-confidence’ primary teachers. It gave them access to new technology and the time and opportunity, to form positive relationships between themselves and our secondary DT teachers.
Teachers took part in a range of workshops using the DT equipment and rooms including; designing a 3D object using online design program TinkerCAD then 3D printing the shape; cutting a shape out with the laser cutter; block printing onto fabric; using a sewing machine and exploring different stitches and a hands on practical session using tools based around DT projects we do at APP.
Feedback from the teacher was that not only was it interesting and fun, but more importantly it was useful, “very valuable and inspiring”.
We are excited about the opportunities for closer ‘whole school’ working relationships next year within Design Technology and other subjects.
