Leeel Kwak, one of our students in Year 7, was recently admitted as a second violin member of the Vietnam Youth Orchestra (VYO).
Leeel has been playing the violin since she was six years old. She is extremely passionate about music and violin, and she works hard every day practising the instrument to pursue her dream.
As one of the youngest candidates to the orchestra audition, Leeel said she feels very proud of being selected. "Every Sunday, I meet with the Orchestra to practice the violin and talk about music with other members. It's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me," she added.
Before joining the Vietnam Youth Orchestra, Leeel competed in the BIS Rising Star competition in June when she was in Year 6 and won first place. Her breathtaking violin performance wowed the audience and earned her the contest trophy.
"I almost burst into tears when I received the trophy," Leeel said. “I made a few mistakes during the performance, and the other competitors were also very good, so I didn't expect to come in first."
Leeel, now in Year 7, is eager to take part in any opportunity to perform the violin and express herself through music. "Now that I'm in Secondary school, I want to participate in everything to show my passion for the violin," Leeel added that she planned to sign up for the upcoming live lunch event at school.
Congratulations to Leeel on such an outstanding achievement! We can't wait to see how far she will progress with the VYO!
About the Vietnam Youth Orchestra
Established in December 2021, the Vietnam Youth Orchestra, in collaboration with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, aims to give young people aged 12-22 years old the opportunity to develop an appreciation of classical music. Each musician is grouped by the instruments they play and they rehearse with assigned instructors every Sunday. To learn more about the Vietnam Youth Orchestra, please visit their website.
