Students Embark on Transformative Umrah Trip

Students Embark on Transformative Umrah Trip - Students Embark on Transformative Umrah Trip
From December 11th to December 16th, 2024, 16 male students from Years 8 and 9 took part in a life-changing journey to Mecca and Medina during our school's first Umrah trip. The programme, organised by the Islamic Department and overseen by Dr. Abdul Rahim Al-Amad and Professor Ahmed Arafa, offered students a special chance to connect their classroom lessons with real-world experiences while deepening their spiritual understanding.

Purpose of the Trip

The main goal of the trip was to help students put into practice the theoretical knowledge they had gained in their Islamic Education classes, specifically regarding Umrah. By experiencing the pilgrimage firsthand, students were able to connect their studies with the actual Islamic rituals and practices. Additionally, visiting the holy cities of Mecca and Medina deepened their understanding of these significant sites and linked them to the revered life of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Highlights of the Programme

The itinerary was carefully planned to provide students with both spiritual and educational experiences:

Wednesday: Students performed Umrah, guided by their supervisors to follow the steps of the pilgrimage.
Thursday: Visits to important sites in Mecca, including Hira Cave (where Islam was first revealed), Mount Arafat, and Muzdalifah.
Friday: Students prayed at the Kaaba before traveling from Mecca to Medina.
Saturday: The group explored the Prophet’s Mosque, the Prophet's Grave, and the Islamic Museum.
Sunday: They visited holy sites in Medina, including Mount Uhud, Quba Mosque, and Qiblatain Mosque.
Monday: The students returned to Abu Dhabi with unforgettable memories and significant spiritual growth.

Student Reflections

The trip left a lasting impression on the participating students, as reflected in their heartfelt feedback:

Khalifah (Year 8): "I truly understood the lessons about Umrah when we applied them practically at the Kaaba. My understanding of religion grew so much with Mr. Abdulraheem’s explanations at each place we visited, like the Battle of Uhud and the Quba Mosque. I also felt happy and more confident because it was my first time traveling alone. I hope to have the opportunity to join again."

Omar (Year 8): "I really enjoyed the trip, especially the moment I stood in front of the Kaaba. I learned to rely on myself, and my friendships with the other students became stronger. I hope to participate again!"

Saeed (Year 9): "I really appreciate all the hard work and dedication that went into organising the Umrah trip. It was such an exciting and memorable experience to visit such a beautiful and religious place. My favorite moment was seeing the Kaaba up close. It was the closest I’ve ever been in my life, and it made the trip truly unforgettable."

Looking Ahead

Building on the success of this year's trip, the Islamic Department is planning to expand the Umrah programme next year to include more year groups. This way, the school hopes to give more students the opportunity to experience this spiritual journey, promoting unity, reflection, and a deeper understanding of Islamic practices.

As one parent expressed, "We are thrilled to welcome back our children and teachers from their successful Umrah trip. May Allah accept their Umrah. It was a truly wonderful experience for our children, broadening their knowledge and deepening their understanding of their faith, while also strengthening their sense of responsibility and independence."

The school’s Islamic Department is also looking into ways to lead the organization of  Umrah trips across Nord Anglia schools. With their enthusiasm and commitment, they aim to set new benchmarks for meaningful and transformative experiences for students.

This Umrah trip has truly captured the essence of learning, community, and spiritual growth, leaving a lasting impression on our students and paving the way for even greater initiatives in the future.
