BIS Abu Dhabi Celebrates World Children’s Day
This week, BIS Abu Dhabi joined the global celebration of World Children’s Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness of children’s rights and empowering young people to share their voices. Marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the day serves as a reminder that children’s rights are universal, non-negotiable, and essential for building a better future.

At BIS Abu Dhabi, we believe that listening to our students helps us better understand their dreams, hopes, and priorities. To celebrate this special day, students engaged in activities inspired by the UNICEF Gulf Child’s Rights Toolkit, exploring key themes such as equality, education, and safety. These activities encouraged critical thinking about rights and responsibilities while giving students a platform to share their ideas and aspirations for a better world.

A highlight of the day was a whole-school performance of We Are the World, where students from all year groups came together to celebrate their shared humanity through music. The event was recorded and will be turned into a BIS Abu Dhabi music video, symbolising our commitment to unity and creative expression. Adding to the celebration, students and staff gathered on the school grounds to form the letters WCD, creating a powerful visual representation of togetherness.

At the heart of Nord Anglia Education’s philosophy, children’s rights play a central role in our approach to holistic education. World Children’s Day provided an opportunity for students to connect their learning to global issues, encouraging them to consider how they can contribute to positive change. It was a reminder that children are powerful agents of change, bringing fresh ideas and innovative solutions to the world’s challenges.

In support of children’s rights, students and staff wore blue, symbolising solidarity and reinforcing our commitment to advocating for children at school and beyond. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Listen to the Future,” encouraged students to engage in conversations about their dreams, aspirations, and ideas for shaping a better world. These dialogues emphasised the importance of valuing children’s voices and reflecting on their role in creating a future that respects their rights and freedoms.

For parents and educators, fostering these meaningful conversations is vital. To support this, we recommend exploring resources available on UNICEF’s Parenting Hub.

World Children’s Day at BIS Abu Dhabi reminded us that children’s rights form the foundation for a brighter tomorrow. By listening to our students, we validate their experiences and empower them to become informed, active participants in shaping the future they envision.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this celebration impactful. Together, we continue to nurture future leaders, innovators, and change-makers.
