Feature Our Teacher Mike Haake

Name and a little bit about you?

I am Michael Haake, a primary teacher here at BIS Abu Dhabi. Before pursuing my degree, I started my journey in education as a qualified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher in vibrant Barcelona. This experience ignited my passion for teaching and language learning, leading me to further my qualifications in the field.

I eventually earned a BA (HONS) degree in Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status from Edge Hill University, specialising in Modern Foreign Languages and Special Educational Needs. My passion for teaching has always been a driving force in my career, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have found a perfect fit at BIS Abu Dhabi.

Aside from my love for education, I am a keen sports enthusiast, with football being my true passion. In fact, I became a qualified Football Association coach to merge my love for teaching with my enthusiasm for the beautiful game.

What do you love about Abu Dhabi?

Abu Dhabi is a city that captivates me with its wonderful weather, the meaningful friendships I've made, the abundance of diverse experiences it offers, and the presence of amazing golf courses to enjoy.

What excites you the most about working at BIS Abu Dhabi?

The most exciting aspect of working at BIS Abu Dhabi is the opportunity to provide world-class opportunities for our children's education. Collaborating with experienced colleagues and teaching students from various parts of the world is truly inspiring and enriching.

What are you most looking forward to in the first week of the academic year?

In my first week of the new academic year, I am eager to form strong bonds with my new team and begin understanding each of my pupils individually. Building these connections will lay the foundation for a successful and fulfilling learning journey together.

What are you grateful for?

I am grateful for being a part of Nord Anglia Education as it has offered an incredible journey filled with gratitude for my family and me. The opportunities this community has provided us have been truly transformative. Not only are my children receiving a world-class education, but it has also exposed them to a diverse and inclusive environment, fostering their personal growth and global perspectives. For me, as an educator, being a part of this exceptional network has allowed me to collaborate with experienced colleagues, access cutting-edge teaching resources, and engage in continuous professional development, all of which have significantly enriched my teaching practice. The sense of belonging and support we have experienced within the Nord Anglia family has made us immensely grateful for the positive impact it has had on our lives, both professionally and personally.

What hobbies do you have? What do you love about them?

I have a passion for sports, and it's hard to pick just one hobby as I love them all! I regularly take part in various sports, and it brings me so much joy and fulfilment. Over the years, football has been my true love, but as I transition with age, I find myself playing less football and exploring the world of golf. Abu Dhabi offers incredible golf courses, and I've been relishing the opportunity to improve my skills on the green.

What I truly love about playing sports is the constant challenge they provide. Whether it's on the football field, the golf course, or the paddle court, I enjoy pushing myself to improve and reach new heights in my performance. Moreover, being part of a team is something I treasure. Sports have given me the chance to build strong friendships and connections with like-minded individuals who share the same passion. The camaraderie and teamwork involved in sports create a sense of   belonging and support that I find incredibly rewarding.
