“Future generations will be living in a world that is very different from that to which we are accustomed.” Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan
There can be no denying that these words of wisdom resound for all of us as we reflect on our lives as children, compared to that of today for our own offspring. Technology, the pace of life, everything being at our fingertips has transformed the way in which we live, work, travel and interact with each other. What is clear in today’s world is that things are constantly changing, progress is being made in so many areas that are benefiting our lives, and things that were once thought impossible are turning into reality.
At the forefront of this “change” and “making the impossible possible”, we are fortunate to be working and living in a country that is instrumental in embracing and leading this “change.” A nation that is proud to retain and celebrate its culture, it should never be forgotten that the UAE as a country is still very young. In December 2021, the UAE will celebrate its 50th anniversary and the accomplishments that have seen the country continue to flourish from the early beginnings in 1971 to current day with successful missions to Mars. The UAE now has more than 200 nationalities who call it home, consistently breaks records in so many areas and has become a global hub for business, finance and tourism due to the vision and commitment of the rulers of the country.
For those of us who have been here for many years, I urge you to pause and think back to the changes that have taken place since you first landed in the UAE. For families who have just arrived and are starting their adventure, take time to understand the UAE’s journey from its humble beginnings in 1971 to the country which now hosts you and is your temporary home.
Although the celebrations of the 50th anniversary is still some months away, that time will pass quickly and in the coming months, we will no doubt learn more about the past and plans for the future. From the desert to the stars in five decades. I wonder what the next 50 years hold for the UAE?
