I have been working at BIS Abu Dhabi for 6 years now. My 9-year-old son has been at the school since Nursery, and my 6-year-old daughter also started in Nursery. We have experienced our BIS Abu Dhabi journey together and as a family we could not ask for more.
I have been teaching for 13 years and I have loved every minute. I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and would regularly hold lessons for my soft toys in my bedroom. I have a BA in English and Psychology, and completed my PGCE in Cheltenham, a beautiful town in the Cotswolds where my family and I now reside when in the UK. I taught in two different schools and learnt a great deal. In my last post I was an Assistant Head Teacher and my main scope was at supporting the teaching and learning across the school. We also supported other schools across the UK who were facing challenges by providing bespoke training opportunities.
One of my highlights as a teacher was when our Deputy Prime Minister at the time came to watch me deliver an English lesson as part of the Cheltenham Literature Festival. I felt an enormous sense of pressure but was also incredibly proud. It ended up being shown on the local news and my family thought I was famous!
When we moved from the UK, it was our first experience at living abroad as a family. My valuable professional experiences ensured that I was well equipped when making the move to an international setting and BIS Abu Dhabi was my first choice, not only for me as a teacher but also as a first experience in school life for my children. No two days are the same in my role, but every day is a new challenge I relish. It can vary from dressing up as a rabbit, to meeting new families and students, to being invited in to share lessons with our wonderful staff.
We have loved every minute and feel that not only has this school enriched our experience of living in this fabulous country but has also enhanced our time together as a family.
